Assumng this release is Goldfinger, the remaining priorities for me would actually be:

1 The Man With The Golden Gun and Moonraker (tie). Golden Gun because of the amount of unreleased music, and that it's the last score with echoes of the classic era 007 sound, and Moonraker, because its the best Moore-era 007 score.

3. A View To A Kill, as, then, the last Barry Bond not expanded at all.

4. Thunderball redux, as the previously expanded score with the most still unreleased music. (I might even rank it above VTAK.)

5. OHMSS redux, as the previously expanded score with the next most still unreleased music.

6. The Living Daylights redux, as the previously expanded score with the next most still unreleased music.

7. The Spy Who Loved Me. Yes, it's a short score that does a lot of temp track copying, but I love it.

8. Licence To Kill.

And then any of the others.

Cheers

Dang, not really a Licence to Kill fan I guess Stephen? It’s never been expanded at all and has certainly got a lot more previously-unreleased music than most on your list above it.

LTK has over 40 minutes of unreleased music if I remember correctly. The most of all Bond scores.

I think the criticism of LTK at the time was that it wasn't particularly 'Bond', it felt more like an identikit 80's actioner with cocaine, guns and Latin America. The score itself (I have to admit to loving it, though) isn't what you'd call Bondian either. It also has that dated-to-the-second sound that Kamen nailed.

Great score, not a great Bond score, imo.

Having said that, I'd love to see it next...!

Yes have to agree with your above list Stephen of expanded Bond Scores in this order that need expanding, but would be happy with any new Bond expanded scores.

It really is a worthwhile project the Expanded Bond scores as James Bond is such a massive franchise & they need this expanded treatment as a proper record of the music in these films for the archives & for the passionate Bond Music fans who so love the music & currently are missing so much unreleased music from so many of the James Bond films that have yet to be Expanded.

Here’s hoping for good news on the 1st October & hopefully more expanded scores before the end of 2024.

I don't dislike it, and in fact I'd certainly buy it, but my list is about what's the best music, not what's the most music.

So, what cues are missing from the Goldfinger CD?

Do we have a list? Woolston?

For what's missing, see the Feb. 4, 2001 post in this thread about what James Bond scores have missing score:

This youtuber had rerecorded the missing bits from Goldfinger, it totals a little over 11 minutes. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0mwD4rbE-O8
Of course if the original recordings were available to LLL there might be also unused music and alternates.

Goldinfinger would be very low on my priorities for expansion, but it is classic Bond at its best and of high historical value. It's the movie and score that perfected the formula and the blueprint for everything that followed. If it is confirmed to be Goldfinger, in a complete version with pristine remastered sound I'll be very happy.

My priorities for Bond expansions would be:

1) License To Kill: I'm confident this one will happen as the tapes are preserved by the Kamen estate, LLL intended to release it (and has been championing Kamen's music) and the Kamen estate has been cooperative.

2) Moonraker: Not much missing music, but it is all great and can use a good sound remaster. I want the "Gondola Chase" music!

3) A View to a Kill: Lots of great music missing and in need of better sound.

4) The Man With The Golden Gun: Love this one (even the title song). It was the longer Bond album on original release (before the Brosnan era) but it misses lots of music.

5) The Spy Who Loved Me: The original score remains unreleased. Would love to have the complete "Car Chase" cues, specially the motorbike sequence.

Agree with all of the above.

Moonraker is missing loads tbf - many of the cues on the score CD are alternates - not the film takes. Corrine Put Down and Flight Into Space being the most obvious.

There's no evidence these were specially recorded for the album. It could be a different take. That wouldn't be unheard of. But IT may also just be a slightly different mix.

There's about 10 minutes of unreleased score music as heard in the film.

Cheers

What I meant by alternates - the album is a curious mix. Corrine Put Down for example - in the film, the counter melody is very clearly played on piano; in the CD mix, it sounds like a flute. They're at different pitches and tempos - the two cues aren't remotely close.

Would be fascinating to find out what happened there - was it recorded in a hurry, was it done by accident, was it Barry who preferred one take over another? Etc etc. All questions to be answered when we finally hear that glorious flight cue in full!!

I always like different versions of the same tracks, because they usually represent the vision of the composer or producers. Of course, this can't always be released, they don't always even exist in the archives.

The expansion of albums should not be a matter of taste, but of how much there actually is to expand. Hence, for example, LTK's extension would be much better than Goldfinger's, because the difference in the missing number of minutes of unreleased music is colossally greater with Kamen.

Of course, the music label does not always have a choice, it often gets an offer it cannot refuse. That's why I never ask labels for things that I know won't interest anyone, because the label also has to sell the product, not to satisfy my ego, because they don't make records just for me. That's why I'm always amused by requests from people who ask for some title that no one in the world has ever heard of, except the asker.

So... it appears to now be official, no tapes exist/available for Goldfinger, with this morning's release from LLL.

Delighted as I am that they've put another Bond out, and remastered it, it is a shame it couldn't be expanded; however I had a relisten to Pike Bishop's wonderful recreations again this morning, and tbph there isn't that much missing, and not a great deal you'd class as essential.

Fingers crossed now for Black Friday...

Also worth noting - anyone who missed LLL's Die Another Day set, there appears to be stock available at the 007 store.
