Provisional 33 man England squad. Rashford, Sterling, Dier, Phillips and Henderson not included. No Jadon Sancho (and he'll likely play in the Champions League final). But James Maddison, Cole Palmer, Ivan Toney and Ollie Watkins are in. Four Palace players. Seven to trim from here. Quality defenders look thin on the ground. Goalkeepers: Dean Henderson (Crystal Palace), Jordan Pickford (Everton), Aaron Ramsdale (Arsenal), James Trafford (Burnley). Defenders: Jarrad Branthwaite (Everton), Lewis Dunk (Brighton), Joe Gomez (Liverpool), Marc Guehi (Crystal Palace), Ezri Konsa (Aston Villa), Harry Maguire (Manchester United), Jarell Quansah (Liverpool), Luke Shaw (Manchester United), John Stones (Manchester City), Kieran Trippier (Newcastle), Kyle Walker (Manchester City) Midfielders: Trent Alexander-Arnold (Liverpool), Conor Gallagher (Chelsea), Curtis Jones (Liverpool), Kobbie Mainoo (Manchester United), Declan Rice (Arsenal), Adam Wharton (Crystal Palace). Forwards: Jude Bellingham (Real Madrid), Jarrod Bowen (West Ham), Eberechi Eze (Crystal Palace), Phil Foden (Manchester City), Jack Grealish (Manchester City), Anthony Gordon (Newcastle), Harry Kane (Bayern Munich), James Maddison (Tottenham), Cole Palmer (Chelsea), Bukayo Saka (Arsenal), Ivan Toney (Brentford), Ollie Watkins (Aston Villa).

I think it could be pretty open, you could make a case for a few teams to win. England have a great chance, best player in Germany, best player in Spain this season. Defence might be an issue, depending on who's fit. France obviously, they look stacked all over the pitch though I'm not sure about their likely midfield of Kante, Griezmann, Camavinga. Something about that doesn't sit right with me and he will likely pick Konate and Upamecano in defence, neither of whom have had great seasons. Spain and Germany have good options too though I'm not sure who will score their goals. I got Portugal in the remote working sweepstake, and if you look at the midfield and attacking options they have they could also win it.

Good analysis Thomas, but I'm struggling for enthusiasm this time round. Possibly that will change wen games arrive

As long as everybody chases the ball for 90 minutes and at the end Germany wins, I'm fine.
