QUARTET RECORDS ANNOUNCES:

2-CD SET!

UNA PISTOLA PER RINGO
IL RITORNO DI RINGO
Music By Ennio Morricone

Limited edition: 500 units

Quartet Records, in collaboration with GDM and Universal Music Publishing Italia, presents a revised, remastered edition of two iconic western scores by Ennio Morricone for the for the classic RINGO diptych, directed by Duccio Tessari in 1965 and starring Giuliano Gemma.

This 2-CD deluxe edition brings together all the previously released material from both RINGO movies with programs that were originally put together for RCA and GDM Music.

Disc 1 contains the stereo program of both RINGO movies, with the cues selected by Morricone for the original RCA release. We have also included the very rare 1965 album originally entitled “La Storia, I Dialoghi, Le Canzoni di Il Ritorno Di Ringo.” This soundtrack was a dialogue/music hybrid that featured Morricone’s music interspersed with newly recorded narration and even included sound effects to retell the whole story in about half an hour. This album also notably includes some short cues that can only be heard in that program.

Also included is a clean take of “L’incontro con la figlia” Although originally composed for his rejected score for THE BIBLE, and later used in THE SECRET OF THE SAHARA, Morricone also used this cue in IL RITORNO DI RINGO, and it even appeared on the 1965 dialog album.

Disc 2 includes the first version released by GDM on CD in 2004 with cues once again selected by the composer, which was entirely in mono. It is interesting because some takes are different from the previous stereo version, as well as the fact that the program was expanded.

Restored and mastered by Chris Malone and supervised by Claudio Fuiano, the richly illustrated 16-page booklet contains in-depth liner notes by the much-missed Gergely Hubai discussing the film and the score.

Great news since I didn't get the previous expanded release by GDM 20 years ago ! Together with Bacalov's ROMA BENE, this is a fantastic batch by Quartet. I also rejoice at the reissue of the 2 CD set by Micalizzi by Digitmovies, another one I didn't buy at the time of its release. As a whole, this is great Italian stuff to look forward to !

In all my years I never realised one of the characters was Welsh. Must have lost something in the dubbing.

You can't convince me that no one at the time joked the sequels would be called Una pistola per Paul, Una pistola per John and Una pistola per George.

I really consider ordering this... but shipping almost doubles the price, so it's over 40€... That's steep. Maybe I let it pass.

YES! Amazing. Up until now a sore gap in my Morricone collection. End of 2022 I wrote José/Quartet if they would consider re-releasing these scores since at the time the respective releases (especially the GDM 2044 twofer) were long out of print and did fetch some decent prices on the secondary market (if available at all).

Instantly ordered (together with some Herrmann, Delerue and Bacalov). Thanks a lot, Chris Malone & Quartet!

I love these two scores.

I originally had them on that single disc compilation that had highlights of the two Ringo scores and Death Rides A Horse.

Then I had the 2CD edition from RCA that had the two Ringo scores on one disc and Death Rides A Horse on the other.

I skipped the GDM expanded edition of the Ringo scores.

But I had to go for this.

500 isn't a lot of units, but these scores have been released several times even if they're OOP now, and, sadly, quite a few Morricone titles didn't sell out fast at that number.

Cheers

Any chance this will make it to Intrada Store like a few other Quartet releases???

Shipping is killing purchase right now but afraid it might sell out...

I don't see why not.

Once Upon A Time In The West (55th anniversary edition) was only 500 units too and that got to international stores without it selling out. But then again, previous editions of that score are not as rare.

At the end of the day, the only way to be absolutely 100% rock solid certain is to order from Quartet and pay the extra postage costs while Quartet themselves have stock.

But, I think that waiting for Intrada or Screen Archives to get it would be a fairly safe bet.

Cheers

Bill, they're playing your song.

My piccioni Italian seems to indicate that this means “Here’s scruffy Carson”.

I just ordered this from Intrada, along with Night Passage. Shipping is less painful when it is split with another soundtrack.

Thanks to the above enthusiasm for this release. You guys convinced me to purchase.
