WEDNESDAY, MAY 22 STAR WARS: THE ACOLYTE---clip released from the Disney+ tv series. LINK: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ABX8upKvrto STAR TREK: STARFLEET ACADEMY---Holly Hunter will play the chancellor of Starflleet Academy in the Paramount+ tv series, Co-showrunners Alex Kurtzman and Noga Landau said, “It feels like we’ve spent our entire lives watching Holly Hunter be a stone-cold genius. To have her extraordinary authenticity, fearlessness, sense of humor, and across the board brilliance leading the charge on STARFLEET ACADEMY is a gift to all of us, and to the enduring legacy of STAR TREK." The series will feature the largest set in the STAR TREK tv franchise. Also, a rumor claims Simon Kinberg (X-MEN) is in negotiations to be the new head of the STAR TREK movie franchise at Paramount Pictures. BLONDE PHANTOM---a rumor claims Marvel Studios is developing the BLONDE PHANTOM tv series for Disney+ that is “described as a spy show set in the 1950s and taking place in Las Vegas” and Taylor Swift is a candidate to be the star. BEING MARIA---photo released of the movie starring Anamaria Vartolomei as Maria Schneider and Matt Dillon as Marlon Brando in the movie about the exploitation of Schneider while making LAST TANGO IN PARIS. HEAVEN CAN WAIT---Glen Powell will star in the remake of the 1978 Warren Beatty movie about a Los Angeles Ram quarterback who is given a second chance after he was prematurely killed in a traffic accident. THE MAN WITH THE MIRACULOUS HANDS---Woody Harrelson and Andy Serkis will star in the World War II movie about physical therapist Felix Kersten, who teamed up with the World Jewish Congress, to trick his patient, SS leader Heinrich Himmler, into thinking the Western Allies would negotiate a surrender with Germany and then declare war on the Soviet Union. This led to 60,000 Jews not being executed by the SS. CRIME 101---Mark Ruffalo is in negotiations to co-star with Chris Hemsworth in the movie based on the novella. The synopsis says, “It’s a great crime story in the vein of HEAT. High-level jewel thieves are taking place up and down the Pacific Coast, and police have linked the thefts to the Colombian cartels. Detective Lou Lubesnick has other ideas, and he zeroes in on one perp, a thief looking for a final score.” GODZILLA VS. KONG---director Adam Wingard is not returning for the third movie due to a schedule problem. CLUB 33---Disney fantasy movie underway based on the exclusive Disneyland dining club. Darren Lemke (SHAZAM!) is the writer. WALKER---CW cancelled the series. TRIVIA---in INDIANA JONES AND THE TEMPLE OF DOOM, surprisingly, many fans never noticed Dan Aykroyd's cameo as British Army officer Art Weber, who arranged for Indiana Jones, Willie and Short Round to escape on a cargo plane at Nang Tao Airport. Aykroyd's cameo is only 18 seconds long and may be the shortest movie appearance of his career.

BLONDE PHANTOM---a rumor claims Marvel Studios is developing the BLONDE PHANTOM tv series for Disney+ that is “described as a spy show set in the 1950s and taking place in Las Vegas” and Taylor Swift is a candidate to be the star. Normally I'd comment on that clip from The Acolyte (seems good, if hopefully in context of a tight, serious story ala Andor... okay, I just commented, sue me) but I wanted to chime in and offer my absolutely correct and unassailable opinion on Taylor Swift in a "Blonde Phantom" film. I know nothing about Swift's acting capabilities. She can go out and tour and perform on a stage. I know nothing about the film subject. Perhaps she's the right pick. I do not enjoy her music, even if she might have actual musical talent. I am certain that at least a few of her songs have been played to death, and that they therefore annoy me. All of these things are true. And none of them lead me to condemn her for pondering a stab at theater. I recall a young male asian man - a k-pop (?) star? - who played a ninja type opposite Sho Kosugi. Forgive me as I cannot recall the film name. But the film was quite good, the star did a great job. Ditto the young actor who I generally disliked based unfairly upon earlier work who co-starred in Crimson Tide, who had to seal a hatch to save the Alabama (Ricky Schroder). But there, he was excellent. We all fail at resisting a finger-pointing diminishment culture, and, in fairness to ourselves we all have the right to indulge our prejudices at various points. I'm just here to stir up a second thought or two as regards the dominance of such freedom. With the exception of Donald J. Shitshow, Republican leadership, and the Capitalist executive class. *cough*

Taylor Swift: Her music is fine. Totally unobjectionable. Can she act? No idea.
