Does anybody remember the 1 hour live radio performance prior to the Barbican concert? I vividly remember sitting there in the small auditorium / rows of seats in front of the orchestra (Where was that? Which orchestra was it?) watching and listening to JG conducting a rather intimate little concert. Afterwards, he quickly disappeared in a taxi (no autographs or anything) and was rushed to the Barbican - we of course did the same.

I found the radio concert on youtube!:

The Maida Vale Studios, the night before the Barbican concert. I was at the two! (I'm sure we've had this conversation before.)

You got me!

Yeah, now I remember that thread, and still I thought the two concerts to have been on the same day. As I said, 35 years.... (but I hadn't found the photograph back then in 2020).

Those times will never repeat. And yes, I miss but also cherish them, a time when film music (and films) actually meant something - and easily filled concert halls with people in tuxedos and dresses, a conductor, a baton, trained musicians who could read music with their score sheets in front of them - harpists, oboists, violinists.

And I was part of it, even if "only" as somebody appreciating (and paying for!) all that great music...!
