Mine has to be the one disc BEYOND THUNDERDOME with Jarre’s score and Tina Turner’s two fantastic songs! But don’t get me wrong, I love them all.

Excellent choice. Mine is Mad Max 2. I hope an enterprising label re-records this awesome work some day.

Mine is Road Warrior, with Thunderdome close behind.

My answer has to be Beyond Thunderdome. Maurice Jarre just pulled out all the stops with that one. Great fun.

Thumbs up Henry! Great thread.

Mine is May's THE ROAD WARRIOR. I saw the film, or more likely furst heard it, around 7 years old.

The mix of action-daylight action scenes (eat me rainy Gothic new norm!) and, to my young ears, this brilliant symphonic music, was a mix that leads me to understand how others value A New Hope so much. It affected me to this day, such a strangely powerful contrast of images and ideas.

I just missed the bus of Star Wars and caught the one to the Wasteland instead.

The pathos in May's adagio heard with his driving nearly but not cartoonish writing (I mean hitting the beats and tempo changes) for the action is unforgettable. I don't understand how more of 'us' don't hold this one dearer!? It's IMO a perfect symbiosis of art, junk, fun, misery and uniqueness.

The Varese album should not be held up for even a peek at the nearly hour long score.
Its 35mins with a 5min SFX suite, and a reprise of the opening cue (End Title).
Looking at about 27mins, if not less of the whole picture folks.

Go watch the film again and see how much is missing!

I have to do this, for Ado....

My least fave Max score?

Furiosa.

Absolutely recycled Fury leftovers, only the new didgeridoo and duduk (?!?!) colors to be found. So many missed opportunities to expand or introduce new ideas. Junky just phoned it in.

I forgave him and grew to love Fury road, despite its heavy Zimmer factory feel, but this one is naff. Only a suspenseful 2-beat idea in the first reel stayed with me.

Shame we couldn't have got John Powell or Beltrami on THIS one!!!!

Back in, I think, 2012 I saw Tina Turner in concert and when she performed WE DON’T NEED ANOTHER HERO it was one of my favorite concert experiences.

In the early 2000s, John Powell was indeed attached to score Fury Road.

Love to play "Break Out" from The Road Warrior while driving SoCal freeways.

Thunderdome, the awesome-sounding full score release from Tadlow. It's also my favourite movie from the series.

It's a no-brainer for me.
MAD MAX BEYOND THUNDERDOME by Maurice Jarre is an ABSOLUTE stormer of a score.
EPIC in the EXTREME, but also incredibly heartfelt and emotional.
A symphonic masterwork with some great sax and percussion blasts for good measure.
It stands head and shoulders above any other scores in the series and is, indeed, one of THE BEST of the 80s.

Whilst I do love the rough and tumble charm of Brian May's scores, BEYOND THUNDERDOME is just too grand and striking, with so many colourful themes and a tone and atmosphere that perfectly marries to the Wasteland world.
So much so that any thing after it just can't come close.

I love that despite the larger budget and massive scale of the orchestra this time around, Jarre still retains a clunky, dirty sound inline with May's original works.

And that theme for Max- used so sparingly, but such a perfect fit for a character that is rugged, heroic yet humble.

Brian May's initial Mad Max is my fave.

I love the short cues and TV-like 'stingers'!

And the Oz flavor from the peak of that era.
