Tomorrow morning I travel to Austin, TX to hear their remarkable symphony orchestra play a concert called "Movie Music Magic" and which will entirely consist of the music of Jerry Goldsmith.

Same here! Meeting my fellow Goldsmith Odyssey founders there, which is exciting. I haven’t seen Jens in person in a couple decades, and I’ve never met Clark in person. Would be cool to run into lots of fellow Goldsmith fans there too.

I am also looking forward to meeting the Goldsmith Odyssey gang and any FSMers who attend. Being retired, I had the luxury
of the available time off and have been here in Austin for the past two days. I was very graciously allowed
to attend the two orchestra rehearsals on Thursday and Friday evenings. Getting the "blaster beam" effect
adjusted just right for STAR TREK TMP was kind of interesting. I met conductor Peter Bay and orchestra librarian
Ali Verderber, who negotiated me through the Stage Door entrance and everywhere else I needed to go.

The program is really fine. They have been working on it for a year and a half, and it shows.

And I know the encore, but I am sworn to secrecy. smile

If anyone is going and doesn't want the encore spoiled, do not look at the e-program. They omit Star Trek under the publishing credits and accidentally put the encore. Going to be a smash!

Oh. My. GOD.

The Austin Symphony went above and beyond tonight. Their brass struggled (especially during Star Trek) but who cares? I’ve never seen that orchestra with so much energy. It was infectious and it spread rapidly. The Sand Pebbles never sounded better. And the encore, the Generals Suite, was the knock it out of the park highlight of the night. Not sure Goldsmith did it better.

If anyone wonders, I was the one who shouted “YEAH” at the top of my lungs after the medly. That was a true musical highlight.

What a great night.

So sorry to miss this! How was the crowd turnout?

And can someone post the program?

I attended this too and thoroughly enjoyed it. The announcer told some really fun stories and the orchestra did a great job. Enthusiastic crowd too.
