I was never a fan of the George Martin suite. Still am not. Includes a bit of atonal, time keeping, dialogue scoring over the action n' potatoes portions.
Playing the suite for the first time and it just....dunno, it's ok, fair peek at the 70 odd min. work. I'd forgotten this was Zim's first real large scale, large forces work. Very effective, glad Intrada did this justice!
Such a fantastic release. Along with the different mix, I love all the bits that were added back in. Especially from 3:39-5:03 in the Final Fire cue. Then there's all the cues relating to Robert De Niro's character. Burnt Out Beamer is also one of my favorites. It's pretty much been on repeat since it arrived.
This is a fantastic release! The extra synth added in the film version make the music even sound better. Now let's hope that Bird on a Wire in on the horizon somewhere.
Just played through it. Honestly, I don't think this is a neccessary release. The synth elements are less at the forefront than I expected.
I have to agree with this. I skimmed this new release, in search of those synth cues that might have added to the listening experience, but I didn't find them. A 50-second cue like "Flashlight", for example, doesn't add much and doesn't have a whole lot of independent value. So I revert back into the "darkness", into the ol' OST. It perfectly captures the DNA of this score.

I watched this film exactly once--decades ago--and don't recall anything but the most basic plot point ("Fire!").
Many years later, I picked up the soundtrack CD and don't recall anything making an impression apart from the (positive) Iron Chef theme () and (negative) Hornsby songs.
Today, I tossed disc 1 of this new Intrada release into the player and was blown... the... cluck... away.
Backdraft could easily substitute for whatever-superhero-score from the past two decades, and the Intrada presentation earned it a first-class ticket to my pantheon of Zimmer faves.
I'm usually a "less is more" guy when it comes to soundtracks, and in this case, less Hornsby and more Zimmer was the winning formula.
I despised the George Martin curated suite (despite feeling glad it was included on this set for posterity...). Really cut this piece off at the clef...
Heard the bootie floating about, knew this was a multi faceted work that needed a proper look. Thank You INTRADA!
A very good score and the complete program just flies by every time I play it. One of the best early Zim balances of synths, orchestral drama and action. I feel Shirley Walker truly conducted, more than influenced, here. A very good amalgamation of Zimmer's ideas, realized orchestrally, with 3 fingers clinging onto the ledge of his first decade of his writing.
I still think the usage in the JURASSIC PARK 93 trailer is idiotic, misleading and lame. Thankful JW didn't hew to a template of....this score!

Agree to disagree.
Agreeda disa....greeden!
To me, that temp trailer cue just painted a very different animal to my brain at 17, versus what I expected (and got) from Willians. I might have sensed the New encroaching on the Old, in spite of digging (still do!) the Zim....
I suppose it's effective, but more that Spielberg had a love for the Zim score (despite that horribly arranged George Martin suite!), and didn't expect this style from JW....but had fun scoring his trailer with it.
Thank You SBD! For a kind response and not barrel blazing me for having an opinion. A good board moment.
