When I listened to the Main Title the other day, for me it seemed like a cross between the rousing opening credits of Damn Yankees! ("Thought About the Game") and the fanfare after the opening of The Abbott And Costello Show when Bud and Lou make their entrance. Ray, any composer credit for the fanfare? Sounds generic. And what's the name of that TV title song and who done it? wink

Henry Mancini wrote the entire Main Title cue (including the Emblem), using Lava's melody. We THINK the tv first season main title was written by Mort Glickman. The problem is that musical director for the series Raoul Kraushaar gave nobody cue sheet credit (unlike Gershenson who was very generous in that regard according to Henry Mancini).

Gotcha. Interesting Kraushaar-Glickman speculation in light of their established Invaders From Mars “collaboration.”

Roger just sent out an email update saying that the album master is finished and they’re currently working on liner notes and covers. He also included four sound bites (two per score).

Hi Roger and gang, I didn't receive the most recent email update from Kickstarter and just want to make sure everything is cool? Thanks

Michael Bean

------------------

Me: Oh Chick! I didn't get the latest Kickstarter email update!

Chick Young: You didn't get the email?

Me: Nah. Number 15. Didn't get it.

Chick: I'm sure it's nothing to worry about. Did you check your spam folder?

Me: Yeah I checked my spam folder!

Chick: Now alright....

Me: OF COURSE I checked my spam folder! "Did I check my spam folder?!?"

Chick: Now just calm down... Wait a minute, did you actually contribute to the Kickstarter?

Me: Yeeesss of course I did, I'm a backer! Whaddaya think I am?

Chick: Ooohhh I'm sure it was just an oversight.

Me: You don't think I should I be worried?

Chick: Of course not! Don't be silly. It's probably just a glitch.

Me: A glitch!

Chick: Yes, nothing more.

Me: Silly me! Worrying about such a silly thing. Thank you Chick.

Chick: Don't mention it.

I have never received any updates on this kickstarter project either. I hope they won't forget to send me the CD.

I wouldn't say that Gershenson was "generous" -- First of all, there were contracts between the composers and the music publishing company Universal used in the 1950s (Gershenson was a partner in that company), and it would have been a violation of the contracts if Gershenson didn't give the composers the proper cue sheet credits. However, the composers were also supposed to get a share of the publishing royalties in addition to their writer's shares, and the company ended up getting sued and/or threatened to be sued by a number of composers when they realized they weren't getting the royalties they should have been getting per the cue sheet credits.

The thing about Mancini is that he would never bash anybody -- he knew how to play the game, so he would sometimes let somebody get away with something because he didn't consider it that important at the time, knowing that this person could be much more influential in his career down the road if he didn't make a stink about every little thing. He was very smart in that regard, and it ended up helping him immensely long after Universal let all their staff composers go.

A new update has been sent out with the covers:

I wonder if the album will have a special slip cover like on the Herrmann twofer.

Just completed a survey to confirm my shipping address and complete information for my rewards tier (I had gone with the $250 tier and chose Face of a Fugitive and The Old Man and the Sea for my free CDs). I can only assume that they’re getting ready to start shipping soon.
