Looks dark n dirty, gritty and real.
I liked THE WITCH and THE LIGHTHOUSE, but hated THE NORSEMAN.
Mark Korven scored the first two, and Carolan did the latter.
His films (Robert Eggers) are always intriguing though, eschewing any kind of easy/popular style in favour of more art-house fare.
I love the look of this and will journey to the cinema to check it out.

At least one movie worth watching this year.
The score... well... probably not so much.

It might be a bit distracting with all those very familiar locations.

Was sure Korven is scoring Nosferatu.

Edit- Just looked on IMdB- weird. I could swear Korven was initially attached to this. What a shame. His score would have been amazing.

"Was sure Korven is scoring Nosferatu"
--------------------
I don't know what happened between LIGHTHOUSE and NORTHMAN, but he opted for Carolan on the latter and appears to be sticking with him.
While I don't enjoy any of the scores OUT OF CONTEXT, they provide a stark, powerful atmosphere within the films themselves.

My interest in this film has now plummeted. Horror in particular is dependant on a strong score, especially this subject matter. Oh well, just saved me $20 from catching it in theatres. Will wait for streaming.

This must be a recent change however since I had spoken to Korven's management about an interview when Nosferatu was to be released. They never indicated he wasn't on the project. This was in April.

I haven't been able to get into any of Eggers' work so far. THE VVITCH is probably the closest. Some great moods in that one, and a rare, serious film about a period in North American history that is woefully underrepresented on film (and that I'm very interested in). I hated THE LIGHTHOUSE and THE NORTHMAN was an absolute misfire of a viking film, IMO.

Maybe this will fare better. He has the filmmaking chops, for sure.

Have you read the Matthew Corbett series of books by Robert McCammon, Thor?
They are set in that American time frame of The Witch.
The first novel (Speaks The Night Bird) has the young assistant getting involved in a witch trial.
The books are excellent.

I haven't, no, thanks for the tip. I did a thread on this topic a few years ago (about films, not books, though):

Interestingly, I see you mention the book in that thread too.

Film doesn't look appealing to me at all, based on the trailer.

I would have seen it if Mark Korven scored it. But now... not so much.

Eggers' other films benefitted terrifically from Korven's moody, atmospheric and at times, terrifying music.

Seriously?? Why not actually hear something first and then judge?
