I can't help but lament how Hollywood seems to have forgotten Newman's number. Imagine the exciting music he could be writing these days. It may not be allowed to reach the level of The Phantom, but still.
As far as favorite cue, I have to say "The Rescue". A nice mix of action and more introspective writing. Not the biggest fan of how it was spliced together with "The Escape" on the La La Land album, but it's a small complaint provided that the Kabai Singh theme (missing from the Milan CD completely) is given full airing. With an assist from Randy Miller, the melody sounds best in the rousing "Fighting the Pirates" and "Escaping the Island" is a terrific capper to the film, moving from the big climax to the conversation between Kit and Diana.
Really, we did not know how good we had it three decades ago.
