Thanks Henry. I find these type of threads very useful. They're of great help to explore the works of various composers. For instance, Quigley Down Under is one of those Poledouris score that have escaped my attention... so far. I'm now on a Quest to find a copy for myself. smile

If you can, try to see the movie. It is a unique and very good western that takes place in Australia. The opening cue is jaunty for a bit and then it goes into a homage to Elmer Bernstein. The Attack cue is stunning.

I always think of Sott Joplin when I play the Main Title ( followed by Elmer , as you say).

Makes me wan to acquire a copy of Quigley even more.

I second Joan's recommendation to check out the film as well. Alan Rickman is predictably great as the villain. A generally quite fun movie with some sections of real darkness... depth and pathos.

The final Duel with Tom and Rickman is a cracker.

Advise, the film is available in a 4K/Blu-ray set from Shout Select, if you’re interested you should check it out. It looks and sounds great with a good selection of extras.

The Attack from Quigley

This one popped into my head immediately. Back when I was writing short stories and drafting (never published) novels, I was stuck on a finale to one of them. I was listening to this cue and it painted a picture in my head that solved my problem. Amazing cue. I never saw the film and I don't really want to see the scene this music supports. It'll never match the scene I created.

"Anvil of Crom," "The Search" and "Recovery" from Conan the Barbarian
"Klendathu Drop" and "Radio Shack/Whiskey Outpost Pt. 2/Death Of Dizzy" from Starship Troopers
"Main Title" from The Blue Lagoon
"The Attack" from Quigley Down Under
"Main Title" and "Nuclear Scam" from The Hunt for Red October
"Rock Shop" from RoboCop

All top notch.

Don't ask me why. It has nothing to do with the film itself. It just hits me a certain way.

This one might actually be my favorite score cue of all time, particularly the Prague recording. I heard it for the first time right after my first break up back in college and it's stuck with me all these years.

Conan tB: Column of Sadness/Wheel of Pain

But really there are several little moments of quiet magic in that score, smaller than tracks, when you can almost feel the temperature of the air.

I almost mentioned this one also. The first 2/3 or so particularly. To me it feels like those moments when one experiences the scope of the life-journey one is on.

Since Joan has mentioned Quigley, I'll offer another favorite of mine:

Another personal favorite, tonally the opposite of my previous pick.

The entire score is wonderful. But I love the energy and joy of this cue.
