I can understand that, but Laura Karpman's score last year's The Marvels is absolutely stellar, so I'm happy to hear what she provides for this next MCU installment.
I was pleased to see that this talented composer is finally getting her due, more than two decades after I first discovered her music. But I have to admit, your well-reasoned post has made me reconsider.
Well, after reading a few positive posts about "The Marvels" soundtrack I decided to give it a listen on YouTube. It sounds like almost every other generic film score we hear nowadays. Completely forgettable. So sadly, I'm not won over. Yeah, that's my "Get off my lawn" statement as I go back to listening to John Williams...
Clearly Alan Silvestri was too busy to return. Jackman's CA scores had its moment, but nothing near Silvestri's one. I have not listened to one note of Karpman's music so cannot comment on her composition skills, however I wish she would be a bit less of an activist.

Her score for The Marvels was nicely colorful (pretty good movie, too), so that'd be a good start. Also, it's not quite the kind of music this film is likely to have, but she was Oscar-nominated for her score from American Fiction.
I don't understand the instant hate (presumably just because it's not Silvestri or Balfe -- I mean, wasn't Balfe in the same potion last time?) -- she's a talented composer in her own right, she serviced her superhero work well enough, and just what more does the third sequel in a tired and bloated superhero film really deserve anyway? Yeah, if we get something amazing from some composer on some countless sequel in a never-ending generic fest of films, great, but how often does that really happen.

With respect to Balfe, his score for Black Widow was great IMHO, however I take the broader point made on this board that he is overexposed right now (a view I share).
Sincere question to davefg: Why does this activism you speak of bother you, and how does it affect you?
None. From my perspective it seems that every interview she gives there needs to be particular line pushed as if its a political interview, however I wish she would adopt the Elfman approach and use some interviews to talk about her music etc, while at the same time use other channels or opportunities - like Elfman, to speak about the issues she cares about.
None, I have not listened to any of her scores because I have a backlog of music to listen to, though based on the suggestions above that may very well change.
