No release year yet. Netflix.

DELETED INACCURATE INFO

The director only has three films to her name, one scored by Jon Brion, the abomination that was Barbie (one of the dozen plus films Desplat was announced to score, but was replaced on) which was scored by Mark Ronson & Andrew Wyatt, and one scored by Desplat. Her first film had no score best I can tell (and was widely panned as being bad and painful to watch).

On the face of it, it appears she wants to work with Desplat, so I guess it's possible she'll ask him to score this at some point. I highly doubt the other composers will be considered.

They are rebooting Narnia? Wonder how many books they'll get through this time.

How ever many it takes to make the director appear higher up in the director's chair. Symmetrical book stacking can come in handy.

Also, will they be starting with The Magician’s Nephew, or will be skipping that and starting with The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe like last time?

NIGHT AND WEEKENDS wasn't panned. It received good to mixed reviews. But not being a fan of 'mumblecore' to begin with, I haven't seen it myself, and have no immediate desire to. LADYBIRD was excellent, I never cared for her version of LITTLE WOMEN, and especially not BARBIE (although the score was a lot of fun).

I hope she's picked up a few score tips from her husband -- I loved the use of Delerue in FRANCES HA (Angel Illaramendi would be a nice choice if she went in that direction -- today's equivalent to the French composer legend). And MISTRESS AMERICA had a gorgeous synth score. But then I guess NARNIA doesn't scream synth score, unless it's a revisionist take.

Time will tell, I suppose. Greta Gerwig + NARNIA is an intriguing combination that I would never have expected. This can go in all directions, including whoever does the score.

I was just wondering yesterday when Netflix would move forward with this! smile

Could very well be both “first” books to avoid that debate:

(Wardrobe is absolutely the first Narnia book and anyone who advocates for first time readers to start with anything else is doing them a grave disservice. smile )

Having read the books several times, I disagree, but I won’t argue...

The key detail you provided is "having read the books several times" -- it's very different for first-time readers.

The Magician's Nephew is not "The Hobbit" of this story, but a true prequel, and is written as a prequel. There are many "aha" moments in it which only make sense after having read The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe first -- and the latter book is the *perfect* introduction to Narnia because it was *written* as an introduction, not a "second" book.

The re-ordering of the series which happened was entirely based on a correspondence C.S. Lewis had with a child who had already read the whole series in publication order. The change in numbering was basically a misguided marketing attempt and it's very unfortunate that people got used to it.

Do you also pause reading LWW midway through its final chapter, read all of The Horse and His Boy, and then go back and read the last couple pages of LWW for the true chronological experience? wink

Naria?

This is a separate, creatively spelled series telling the backstory of Gandalf's ring. [Shudders and wonders if anyone from Amazon is listening...]

My test to see if anybody was paying attention worked.

That's the ticket.

I very much agree with this. I would always recommend anyone to experience any series in chronological order of publication. smile
