BUT....I'm very excited for this series. After the relative disappointment of ROMULUS, this might take the franchise back to the auteur roots I missed in that film. Noah Hawley is on a whole other level than Alvarez; the only one to truly make something original out of the Marvel universe, with LEGION (which, to be fair, wears its David Lynch on its sleeve). And FARGO as well. He's the strong, new voice the series needs.
As for Russo, he's a bit hit and miss to me, but the proof is in the pudding. Curious to see what he can come up with for this.
Lord, when does this Russo thing end already? How does he leap into become the composer on franchise properties and name properties like this?
"Charlie's Angels" remake series (rejected pilot score), additional music on the remake "Bionic Woman" series, "Fargo", Star Trek TV series, now Alien. Only a matter o time before he's announced on one of the gazillion Star Wars series.

You just described my frustration with Giacchino (who -- for all that is holy -- should stay as far away from this as humanly possible; it's the only franchise I have left, my favourite franchise, no less, that he hasn't laid his hands on yet). Thankfully, I'm more positive towards Russo and don't mind his presence in all things 'name property'.
Indeed he did. And I think most of his best work is in conjunction with Hawley. I figured it to be a shoo-in that he would score this new series. I haven't heard RIPLEY.
