Also, IMAGES is many ways a variation of Polanski's REPULSION, so perhaps Williams would have composed something similar for that.

Totally disagree. 1492, Black Rain and White Squall all have very good scores.

Of course we'll never know if the composer of the most iconic Bond scores, The Ipcress File, The Lion in Winter, Body Heat, Out of Africa and Dances With Wolves would have written a better score than Jeff Rona...but oh, the odds.

Absolutely! I find that whole thing more interesting than sheer "fantasy collaborations", i.e. collaborations that were actually started, but that for various reasons were aborted.

Agreed! Time for a "Composer/Director Teams You Wish Had Continued" thread?

I've always regreted that Jerry Goldsmith had zero entry in Clint Eastwood filmography (both as an actor and as as a director).

Even John Williams has at least a one of a kind Eastwood linked entry (THE EIGER SANCTION)...

Speaking of Clint Eastwood, as a director of films I wish he had used composers like Schifrin and Morricone, rather than his nothing burger piano noodlings.

I so agree with you. Mystic River was a superb movie that could have been even better had he used Morricone. Eastwood's music robbed some of the scenes of their power.

Score producer Hans Zimmer helped greatly with making White Squall a great score.

I think you and I argued over this earlier, Joan. I disagree with you, because I think the relatively simple musical language makes the power of the film all the greater. Like with BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN. I'm glad it didn't have a more traditional score heavy on Hollywood rhetoric. Could easily have made it overblown.

Thor, I stand by my opinion about Mystic River; however, it is okay to disagree with me. (But only once.wink)

We rarely do, so once in a while is OK. smile
