The original Varèse Sarabande Deluxe Edition was already excellent. THE MATRIX is one of my favorite film scores, and that edition was a breeze to listen to, the 77 minutes was a great representative listen, and I had no need for a further expansion. Nevertheless, I also have the 2CD expansion. So I'm well set. I only own the OST. Not a superfan, but I wouldn't mind giving this score another chance to click. I'm assuming the complete edition is overkill for me. How would this score compare to the Deluxe Edition? I'm a huge fan of the music (of all three Don Davis MATRIX scores), but I don't have the original Varèse Soundtrack album of THE MATRIX, my first album was the Deluxe Edition, so I don't know how these two would compare.

So like some, I am not quite sure who is the target audience for this new MATRIX edition, most soundtrack collectors obviously prefer to have one of the previous releases. I guess this new and rather short MATRIX edition is more for the Vinyl fans who want a cool looking album to put on display, and the CD is more or less an afterthought. I don't know, we'll just see how well it sells. In any case, Varèse Sarabande's 2CD set remains available for digital download and streaming, so it's not "gone". And herein lies the dilemma. Most of us CD buyers already own the superior Deluxe and/or Complete editions, so like mentioned above, this will appeal to vinyl fans for its cool cover (“wait, there’s music on this thing??”) so I can’t imagine the CD will sell well. Then it will appear that people just aren’t interested in buying the CD format and will turn into “nobody wants CDs anymore”. Hope I’m wrong.

Meanwhile, the AniMatrix score remains buried.

"Expanded release" and "extended track list". I think access to a dictionary would have resulted in words that were a little more .... precise. The Matrix: The Glitch Edition (Selections from the Motion Picture Score)
