SEASON 1:
British series that began in 1995 As all four episodes of season one (series one, depending on how British you are...) are scored by Anne Dudley, there's no need to mention the name on each episode. Dudley has included two cues on her website: https://www.annedudley.co.uk/kavanagh-qc This series was suggested by Advise & Consent. Selected tracks by both composers, was released in 1997 on a CD from Virgin Records, with only under 57 minutes of scoring: https://www.soundtrackcollector.com/title/33349/Kavanagh+Q.C. Most of the tracks for Dudley appear to be the episode names, indicating which episode the music is from, but not what scenes. Only about twenty-eight minutes from her on the CD (minus her theme music). Attention readers: I have been using a system that is nothing more than a note to myself; for cues that I want to include in a suite one day, for now on I will denote them with ^ symbol. It has no special meaning to anyone else but myself. No, the lack of an up arrow symbol doesn't mean the cue is bad (it just may have too much SFX or FX for suite use or just isn't worth my time to edit and include). Hence forth this system will be in all future threads and pre-exiting threads that I go back to for missed episodes. Anything in ( ) are just notes to the arrow and you need not bother with that. The system does not mean that I will make a suite or that one has been made, it's simply for my own reference if and when I do decide to. "Nothing But the Truth" https://ok.ru/video/1663557110445 Highlights: 0:02 in.^ 12:12 in.^ 16:22 in.^ 18:41 in. 29:20 in. Soft warm strings lead cue.^ 30:32 in.^ 33:25 in. This is probably the cue on the CD titled: The Boat.^ 37:19 in.^ 49:48 in.^ 53:19 in. 1:02:39 in. 1:09:22 in.^ 1:22:11 in.^ 1:31:40 in. 1:36:51 in. The cue continues and acts as the end credits.^ Dudley provides a somber, moody and sometimes bleak score lead by strings. The premiere is sort of the anti-Columbo approach, where you're not really sure who is guilty or who is innocent and in the end you have to make your own decision. Considering the contrary evidence presented during the course of this episode, it's no wonder it's not clear. "You really are a total shit."

When I started watching the series a few years ago, I was so taken by Anne Dudley's music I had to buy it second-hand pricey. One of my favorite acquisitions in recent years - I like the Keane material, love Dudley's work. I was surprised and delighted to find a soundtrack. The show is just excellent - shows John Thaw in a genuinely different light, and a plausible take on the lives and careers of them bewigged lawyers they've got in the old country! As someone who counts Rumpole of the Bailey as one of the best TV shows ever, this is a terrific change of pace. Reminds me that I haven't finished the series yet....!

Thanks Justin. Anne Dudley wrote a terrific theme and scores for series 1. Her theme was also weaved very deftly in the episode scores. However, I prefer the John Keane theme, very nimble, varied endlessly through the episode scores. Quality scoring through and through and an excellent series.

Sad emotional cue that swells up and continues into the end credits.^ There is one cue (not cited) which is used twice in the episode, only mere minutes apart.

"The Sweetest Thing" https://ok.ru/video/1663596759725 This is Dudley's final effort for the series. SEASON 2:
Dudley's theme is no longer used. "True Commitment" By: John M. Keane https://ok.ru/video/1664585173677 All episode scores from this one onward, are by Keane. Highlights: 1:47 in.^ 26:22 in.^ 31:11 in.^ 35:30 in.^ 47:33 in.^ 52:53 in.^ 56:05 in.^ 1:14:13 in. Continues on into the end credits.^ For this premiere episode, Jeremy gets his own theme, a melancholy theme on woodwinds with pizzicato strings underneath.

Continuing SEASON 2:
"Men of Substance" https://ok.ru/video/1664592120493 Highlights: 0:03 in. 2:18 in. Subdued percussion for the action sequences. 19:21 in. Kind of plucky, maybe a little too whimsical sounding. So used to Dudley's work, I can imagine she would have scored this scene entirely with strings, in a somber cold tone ending in uneasiness.^ 35:27 in. 37:20 in.^ 52:59 in. 1:02:46 in. 1:05:27 in.^ 1:08:50 in.^ 1:14:17 in.^ Keane's action music leaves a lot to be desired. Kavanagh: "The jury can see you for what you are..."

Continuing SEASON 2:
"A Stranger in the Family" https://ok.ru/video/1665595214509 Highlights: 0:00 in.^ 4:10 in. 7:59 in.^ 34:22 in.^ 1:00:33 in.^ 1:07:04 in.^ 1:14:33 in.^ I got to say, I don't like this episode. It begins the legal battle by trying to place blame on somebody when it was an accident, then tries to vindicate itself by dumping a surprise illegal dumping operation by the company, so you have a bad guy to pay up. Just sodding crap.

Finishing SEASON 2:
"Job Satisfaction" https://ok.ru/video/1665597573805 Highlights: 0:00 in.^ 21:38 in.^ 38:11 in. Including funeral music lead by a somber flute solo.^ 53:50 in. Uneasy dark material for brass.^ 57:00 in.^ 59:18 in.^ 1:00:06 in. More of the somber funeral music.^ 1:01:33 in.^ 1:09:35 in. There is not as much scoring in the episode as usual. I skipped a few short and unremarkable cues.

Great show with beautiful music! Anne Dudley is especially excellent with these string led drama scores. I just adored her work on Poldark. More recently her score for the first series of Signora Volpe was gorgeous! Unfortunately no soundtrack for that yet. Hello I was born, bred and still live in the heart of Poldark Country. Anne Dudley's music for the series captures the mood of the area brilliantly. CC

Short whimsical cue.^ 31:15 in.^ 49:09 in.^ 54:25 in.^ 1:05:38 in.^ Lord, does the black actress playing the doctor have any other acting skills than widening her eyes like she's gonna cast a spell on you and steal your soul? Just, so wrong and it's done over and over and over again.

Continuing SEASON 3:
"The Ties That Bind" https://ok.ru/video/1673291041453 Highlights: 0:00 in.^ 3:08 in.^ 6:57 in.^(9:08) 13:31 in.^ 22:36 in. 28:33 in.^ 30:27 in.^ 38:56 in.^ 50:09 in.^ 53:37/56:06 in. 1:05:32 in.^ 1:08:28 in. 1:12:59 in. Transitions into the fairly aggressive end credits piece which sets a tone and stays there.^(1:14:48) This episode features a twist that puts Kavanagh in situation that has consequences either way, though it's resolved in a few minutes. Kavanagh: "You're a cheeky sod." "I don't know about you, but I can't stomach seeing an arrogant sod get away with murder."

Finishing SEASON 3:
"In God We Trust" https://ok.ru/video/1674491529901 Highlights: 0:00/8:18 in. Continues into a sad and emotional end credits cue.^ The writing here is embarrassing. This is clearly written by a British person with a Leftist bent who really thinks this is what Florida is like. And how that cab driver was written and handled, I mean, you got to get far into some backwoods to find somebody like that around here and even then it's not quite like represented here. And while I can't say people in the year this episode was made, did not refer to black Americans as "Colored", I was alive back then and can't recall then or up until now, ever hearing a person in real life use that word that way. I only hear this garbage in Hollywood and overseas productions. Oh, and another one of those babies born with heads of hair. Yeah, they come out that way, don't you know. "What makes you think they're talking to me?" (BA-ZING)

We get no good-byes as she's already gone with this first episode of the next season. Kavanagh: "I like to live dangerously, try new things; tomorrow I may even have a SlushPuppy."
