Hi everyone! Time for another CD giveaway, thanks to a generous donor who wishes to remain anonymous (but who asked me to set up a thread and run things to find a winner, since I've been championing this release and the composer here on the board). Here's a thread with some excellent discussion about the superb LLL twofer album being given away:
https://www.filmscoremonthly.com/board/posts.cfm?threadID=156560&forumID=1&archive=0

To participate,

1) Post in this thread to enter. Write the main reason or reasons you either love the score(s), or (if you don't know either of them) are interested in getting the album.

2) Please send me an e-mail at moradi DOT yavar AT gmail DOT com.

3) Make sure to include "OLIVER NELSON CD GIVEAWAY" in the subject line, so I can find all entries easily on a search, and please include your FSM account name in the e-mail, if your email address doesn't already make it obvious.

You have until this coming Wednesday, September 18th at midnight PST to enter. Good luck, all!

Yavar

Hello Yavar, thank you and the contributor of the CD for the generous offer. Personally, I only know of Nelson through his TV music and therefore it would be great to hear discover his scores for films. Email sent. Many thanks.

Hi, please include me.
Oliver Nelson wrote the music to my favourite tv program as a child. Even the sound effects are so memorable. Any other film or tv music from him would be grand...

First of all: thanks for your generosity Yavar!

I really would love to own these scores because Oliver Nelson's output in film music is unknown for me and I am reading very good things about this release. I can feel a comparation with Goldsmith's Lonely are the Brave in doing a western sound more modern and even contemporary. That's pretty awesome stuff, and I think La La Land did great recovering these two works whom deserve a listen.

Best!!

I am not familiar with either score, nor the composer...but what better way to learn than through listening? Thanks for the opportunity to expand my horizon's and hear something new.

Same as jedizim - I'm not familiar with films.
But I know Nelson for his Zigzag (thanks Lukas!!) and of course The Greenhouse Jungle (Columbo).

I bought Death of a Gunfighter instantly, so I'm not entering the giveaway, but I'm delighted to see its name in the news around here. It's a tremendous CD and deserves more attention.

I am also not familiar with these scores or Oliver Nelson. Discovering new composers is exciting. There is so much extraordinary music out there. I've made some amazing discoveries through the specialty labels and am always grateful when they release lesser-known music. The samples of these sound great! Can't wait to hear the full recordings.

Thanks, Yavar and your generous companion! Email send.

^^ You’re both (all) welcome. smile

We have a similar experience, as “The Greenhouse Jungle” was my intro to Nelson’s work at a young age (I think it’s always been my favorite Columbo score, sorry Billy G!) and Lukas’s great release of Zigzag was my first Nelson soundtrack album!

Did you send me an email? I don’t see one from you to accompany your posted interest like I did for Amer and Hitch…

Very cool of Yavar to do this (and the anonymous donor of course).

I absolutely LOVE this CD, one of my favourites (if not THE favourite) of my purchases this year! So, good luck to all the participants, and premature congrats to the lucky winner!

I love the music of the 60s and 70s. There is so little of Oliver Nelson. In addition, it is finally a first release of a score and not a (what feels like) constant re-release.

First release of *two* scores! wink

Yeah, I wish we still got more premieres like this (reminds me of the good old days of FSM)… but we’ve heard from MV and other label heads that expansions of scores people know and love already just tend to sell better than premieres do, unfortunately. Just look at how Varese Sarabande discounted Conti’s The Big Fix and Rosenthal’s Rooster Cogburn to only $5 for a sale or two, only a couple years after they were released… if that’s something that makes you sad, then do your part to buy copies of great premiere releases like this one when they come out, whether you’re familiar with the scores/composer or not. That way you can encourage more such releases when someone takes a chance on one.

Only just finally made my account on here so it would be improper for me to enter - although I'm active on JWFan so not a complete stranger - but this does look like a fun score and one I will buy eventually.

Count me in! Early 70's jazzy jungle vibe is right up my alley. Thanks, Yavar.

Please count me in for the giveaway and thank you both for your generosity.

I've never seen the films, and I'm not familiar with Oliver Nelson's work - just reading the Wiki:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oliver_Nelson

Huge impact on blues music, and he had some excellent musical influence and inspiration and worked with some incredible musicians. So unfortunate he was only with us for 43 years. I am approaching that age myself!
