This film is playing in UK cinemas right now, even though it premiered in Toronto 1 year ago.

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt13457790/

A British period thriller starring Ian McKellen and Gemma Arteton.
I like Craig Armstrong (his recent score to THE GREAT ESCAPER was even released on CD) and I'm always interested to hear what he's up to.
Anyone ventured into the dark to check this film out?
What's it like...and the score?

Watched this film today and it is a real bore. not a lot of music other than end credits
I like Craig Armstrong's music The Great Escaper. But this is not memorable.

I love Armstrong, but it's been 8 years since his last "worthy" addition to my collection (his wonderful solo album ROSA MORTA) and 9 years since the last score (FAR FROM THE MADDING CROWD). Well, if you disregard the moody Peter Mullan compilation from 2019, which was all old stuff anyway. It's about time he wows me again, but I get the feeling that this is not it.

WHAT!!!

VICTOR FRANKENSTEIN came along with FAR FROM THE MADDING CROWD and that's a stunning achievement.
Also, SNOWDEN has some fine moments and THE ONE & ONLY IVAN has lots of tracks of exquisite beauty.
THE GREAT ESCAPER, from last year, is also very nice. Pure Armstrong.
I also need to give MRS LOWRY & SON another play or two. I think I moved on too quickly from it when I got it.

His non-score album THE EDGE OF THE SEA (with Calum Martin) is also quite lovely.

You need to listen with better ears, Thor #TrueFan wink

I've heard all of those, and they didn't do much for me, I'm afraid.

Armstrong's Love Actually - The Love Themes for Orchestra album is a winner in every regard. One of the best releases from last year.

I agree, Victor Frankenstein is easily in my top 5 scores of the last 10 years.

Epic, spectacular score.

It's mixed badly in the actual film, and not all of the cues are used, but the score on the album is magnificent. smile

Despite Lyn's less than glowing review of the film and its music, looks like this is getting a digital release at least.

So I'm listening to this. It's not another score that will fire me up, I'm afraid, but it's not bad either. Lots of undulating piano on string cushions, slow chords modulating. Kinda Desplat-ish.

I'm getting more of a Thomas Newman vibe from it...

Yep, that was what I thought too. Film was probably temped with Newman music.

There are some nice bits here and there, but this is a fairly low key, backgroundy score, not one I think I'll revisit many times on the album.
