Repressed and back in stock at Varese, for anyone who's been waiting (like myself!)

Kudos to Varese for pressing more of this title which had apparently sold out and left a lot of Goldsmith fans sadly wanting. I guess now we'll concentrate on getting out that Soundtrack Spotlight we recorded half a year ago! Yavar

Well, it sounded like they did exactly that a year ago for City Hall: The Deluxe Edition... so it seems possible. It's not as if they never mark things as "out of stock" instead of sold out. Yavar

The Goldsmith Odyssey crew just dropped this yesterday... Odyssey Soundtrack Spotlight - The Other (1972) with Tim Greiving and Chris Malone It's another Soundtrack Spotlight! This time, your humble hosts Yavar and David are joined by liner notes writer Tim Greiving and mastering engineer Chris Malone for an examination of Jerry Goldsmith's alternately lyrical and chilling score for Robert Mulligan's 1972 horror film The Other. Previously only available on CD as a 22-minute suite, the complete score has been beautifully restored and reveals itself as a yet another remarkable Goldsmith work. In this show, you'll hear discussion of the film's troubled production history and mixed critical reception, the advances in audio restoration tools since the release of the previous album, Goldsmith's eclectic instrumental choices, and much more. Plus, as usual, you'll hear plenty of musical selections from the new album along the way. Unfortunately, the CD sold out long before we were able to get this program to the finish line, but remains available for digital purchase and can be heard via the major music streaming services. So give our Spotlight a listen, or just wait until we learn how to astrally project our thoughts into your mind. Enjoy! https://goldsmithodyssey.buzzsprout.com/159614/episodes/13885823-odyssey-soundtrack-spotlight-the-other-1972-with-tim-greiving-and-chris-malone

Yeah we recorded this about half a year ago, and editing was mostly done in late 2024… but then it sold out unexpectedly quickly (faster than Lionheart even, I think?) We kept hoping Varese would re-press the title like they did for their previous Goldsmith Deluxe Edition, City Hall… it came back into stock briefly for a few hours last month IIRC, which kinda spurred us to finally put this out. Now it’ll be ready for folks in case they ever make more copies available again, but at the very least people can get it as a lossless digital download *right now*, in as good sound quality as CD if sadly without the physical pleasures. And hopefully the many people who already nabbed a copy when it was first released will still find the conversation of interest. Yavar

Wow Josh! I’ve been following your excellent posts here for years, and I didn’t realize you’d never listened to a Goldsmith Odyssey podcast episode! Glad to (finally) have you aboard and hope that it’s the first episode of many that you try. We actually just put out another briefer one, which Jens just finished editing for Intrada’s new First Blood. I wasn’t able to join the conversation on that one alas, but Jens and David did a fantastic job hosting it themselves with Roger Feigelson and Neil S. Bulk as guests. Yavar

I loved how the conversation is peppered with generous sound clips from the score, film, etc. The Robert Osborne TCM intro was a classy touch. Very well done. Hey, thank you!
