This is only £4.99 from the UK Varese Shop.
Obviously a sad sign that Jarre doesn't sell as well as he used to.
I know it was already released as a 30 minute jobbie back in the day, wherein Jarre did that customary 'lengthy suites' thing.
This breaks them up, adds some missing stuff and then just gives you the original album suites anyway.
It's typical Jarre, with one of his dancing melodies presiding over some suspense, comedy and angelic scoring.
I know he can be a bit Marmite around here.
But FOUR NINETY NINE!!! C'mon.
I was ordering THE OTHER anyway, so it seemed rude not to add it to my order.
It's not top-tier Jarre by any stretch, but if you like his style, it's well worth a cheeky punt at that price.
And compared to most stuff these days...it's PROPER film music.

I agree it's a solid score and definitely worth it at that price!

I fear that its apparent poor sales may have made Varese unwilling to expand other 90s-on Jarre scores they control: Ghost, Only the Lonely, I Dreamed of Africa, and After Dark, My Sweet.

Since they did produce a nice Deluxe Edition of Enemy Mine, that might indicate they also control some of the other 80s Jarre titles they released: Dead Poets Society, The Bride, Witness, Julia and Julia, Enemies: A Love Story, The Year of Living Dangerously, or the wonderful underrated orchestral score Enola Gay (which Varese reissued in their LP to CD series, but never expanded). I think that and Tai-Pan would be my most hoped-for Varese Jarre expansions if tapes survived and they were willing to consider doing them.

Ghost would do well.

The album was a huge hit--and not just because of Unchained Melody.

Jarre's main theme is catchy and, well, haunting.

This score would have won an Oscar if not for the Dances with Wolves juggernaut.

So, this score has appeal beyond our little village.

Does Varese own rights on Ghost? If not, I was hoping LLL treatment, it is a fine score.

I did purchase Almost An Angel, at the sale price. The score did nothing for me, but still well worth the price.

Milan records did a reissue with 2 bonus tracks for Ghost

So that would imply that Varese do not own the exclusive rights.

How much is missing from GHOST?
I agree it would likely sell well, based on the title alone.
I remember hunting down a copy of the Varese USA edition, cos it looked so much better than the European Milan release, artwork/design-wise.
It's another theme that always reminds me of Stu Phillips' BATTLESTAR GALACTICA TV theme (see also BEASTMASTER and probably others).

Although this score isn't in the same 'higher echelons' as MOON OVER PARADOR (for me at least), every time the Main Theme kicks in, I'm reminded of it.
I know it's down to a Maurice Jarre chromatic dance-like writing device, but it's great when it explodes.
This is a nice, fun score.
Nothing ground-breaking, but so typically Jarre that it's impossible not to like if you surrender to its/his charms.
I enjoy having the 'bite-size' tracks too, compared to the typical 'suites' approach that MJ was so fond of.
Well worth the beans it's going for.
