SEASON 1:
TV series that began in 1969. The annoying theme music is by Gil Melle. The season three theme is presumably by Eddie Sauter. Due to the nature of episodes having multiple story segments in them, I am breaking up score highlights to reflect segments and may have no make other notes where applicable. The series was a mess -- segments played by themselves, segments combined with other episodes, edited down versions of "The Sixth Sense" included in re-runs, so there 's strictly speaking no real episode order, only a loosely structured one, which I am going with. "Night Gallery" (0) (the feature-length pilot) By: Billy Goldenberg (as "William Goldenberg") (all three segments) https://ok.ru/video/5648025389646 This is the only effort by Goldenberg for the series. Highlights: 0:23 in.^ 7:37 in.^ 11:25 in.^ 14:53 in.^ 17:33 in.^ 25:06 in.^ 36:05 in.^ 43:39 in.^ 55:41 in.^ 59:34 in.^ 1:04:55 in.^ 1:08:40 in.^ 1:10:10 in. 1:13:56 in.^ 1:20:24 in.^ 1:22:11 in.^ 1:29:55 in.^ Composer credit: 1:37:26 in. Trivia: I have no idea (I know, I could look it up, but I'm not going to) if an eye transplant like that for temporary sight, was ever a thing, but I do know that a few years ago I read about doctors in the U.S. transplanting pig eyes into people so they can see again. I couldn't re-locate that, but I did find news articles from more recently where in 2022 they were reporting a protein from pig eyes was used to help 20 blind people see again. I assure you -- the quote below is purely coincidental and not some oddball double entendre on my end. "You're a swine, sir." "The Dead Man/The Housekeeper" (1) By: Robert Prince (both segments) https://ok.ru/video/7635937266254 Highlights: 0:55 in.^ 16:53 in.^ 21:39 in.^ 27:53 in.^ 32:57 in.^ 47:03 in.^ 48:59 in.^

Continuing SEASON 1:
"Room with a View/The Little Black Bag/The Nature of the Enemy" By: Robert Prince (all three segments) https://ok.ru/video/7635946768974 Highlights: About 1:20 in.^ 11:13 in. 31:01 in.^ 41:36 in.^ Man, that second segment was good and perfectly ended with a focus on the word "WASTE", but then that final segment ... lord. "You get old, you get smart." Out-of-context quote... "You got to know what kind of package you're getting..." "The House/Certain Shadows on the Wall" By: Robert Prince (both segments) https://ok.ru/video/7635960597070 Highlights: 0:56 in.^ 8:56 in.^ 17:33 in.^ 19:50 in.^ 23:20 in.^ 26:35 in.^ 29:20 in.^ 36:13 in.^ 38:48 in. 45:10 in.^ 47:25 in. I'm sure there's some kind of message the first segment is trying to imply, but in the end it's not entirely clear (though I have an idea) and because of all the build up, you expect something more, something to actually happen, some kind of payoff, but nothing happens. It just ends on a fade to a commercial break, like an unfinished episode. But having said that, the scoring for this segment is the best of the series thus far.

"Make Me Laugh/Clean Kills and Other Trophies" By: Robert Prince https://ok.ru/video/7635975342670 Highlights: 0:53 in.^ 16:30 in. The source music.^ 23:57 in.^ 26:16 in.^ 26:52 in.^ 36:33 in. 40:05 in.^ 42:54 in.^ 44:42 in.^ Out-of-context quote... "Squeeze it, Archie, squeeze it..." "Pamela's Voice/Lone Survivor/The Doll" By: Robert Prince (all three segments) https://ok.ru/video/7635980323406 This is the final effort by Prince for the series. Highlights: 0:53 in.^ 8:11 in. 10:30 in.^ 14:07 in. 30:15 in. 32:18 in.^ 36:13 in.^ 41:02 in. India-flavored music.^ 44:30 in.^ 48:40 in.^

I don't have any comments about those episodes though. The nearest episode I make a comment on is the upcoming "A Question of Fear/The Devil is Not Mocked".

No, no, I mean no comments about the episodes themselves. Score coverage as usual.

Finishing SEASON 1:
"They're Tearing Down Tim Riley's Bar/The Last Laurel" By: Benny Carter https://ok.ru/video/7635987597902 This is the only effort by Carter for the series. Highlights: 0:56 in.^ 5:20 in. 15:38 in.^ 18:47 in.^ 24:32 in. 34:47 in.^ 40:18 in.^ 41:07 in.^ 44:42 in.^

SEASON 2:
This season features a new arrangement of the Melle theme. Still annoying, and now thankfully a little shorter. "The Boy Who Predicted Earthquakes/Miss Lovecraft Sent Me/The Hand of Borgus Weems/Phantom of What Opera?" By: Oliver Nelson (all four segments) https://ok.ru/video/7636444645966 Highlights: 16:06 in.^ 20:20 in.^ 23:59 in.^ 25:52 in.^ 30:43 in.^ 38:11 in. Percussion and strings, with some synths.^ 49:37 in.^ I think we've learned that clearly everybody needs their right hand removed -- the left hand: okie dokie. "Death in the Family/The Merciful/Class of '99/Witches' Feast" TRACK JOB? https://ok.ru/video/7636459457102 (missing end credits) https://ok.ru/video/694274099784 (alternate edit load) I'd swear this was an original score. (Score: 0:45, 6:37, 11:05, 13:55, 18:45, 21:20, 26:30, 38:28, 41:00, 42:41, 49:47.)

Continuing SEASON 2:
"Since Aunt Ada Came to Stay/With Apologies to Mr. Hyde/The Flip-Side of Satan" By: John Lewis (all three segments) https://ok.ru/video/7636469942862 Highlights: 0:45 in.^ 3:25 in.^ 6:39 in.^ 10:44 in.^ 13:40 in.^ 17:05 in.^ 22:10 in.^ 31:25 in.^ 33:21 in.^ 33:20 in.^ 45:33 in.^ 49:55 in.^ "A Fear of Spiders/Junior/Marmalade Wine/The Academy" TRACK JOB https://ok.ru/video/7636481411662 (Score: 0:46, 4:45/10:23, 11:32, 14:22, 18:31, 24:21, 26:31, 32:01, 36:05, 48:18.)

Continuing SEASON 2:
"The Phantom Farmhouse/Silent Snow, Secret Snow" By: Oliver Nelson / Paul Glass https://ok.ru/video/7636560775758 Highlights: 2:48 in.^ 4:51 in. 8:46 in.^ 11:46 in.^ 22:15 in.^ 24:49 in.^ 30:05 in. With frantic action music.^ 32:26 in. 33:59 in.^ 38:28 in.^ 40:50 in.^ 43:00 in.^ 46:08 in.^ 49:39 in.^ What's instantly obvious is that even if the end credits hadn't delineated who scored which segment, it's clear as day the second segment is Glass -- very distinctively unusual, as he had a penchant for in his scoring (at least, what little I have heard). It's a very nice score and a nearly wall-to-wall score. The segment itself is crap and goes nowhere. "A Question of Fear/The Devil is Not Mocked" By: Paul Glass (both segments) https://ok.ru/video/7636577552974 Highlights: 0:40 in. 5:13 in.^ 6:25 in.^ 8:58 in.^ 9:32 in.^ 10:25 in.^ 13:24 in. Short dramatic bit. 25:20 in.^ 27:15 in.^ 30:30 in.^ 33:50 in.^ 39:12 in.^ 40:07 in. 43:21 in.^ 49:55 in. Glass' scoring for both segments is a little more normal sounding than his usual approaches. Got to say, I love that second segment.

Continuing SEASON 2:
"Midnight Never Ends/Brenda" By: Oliver Nelson / Eddie Sauter https://ok.ru/video/7636891404878 Highlights: 5:59 in.^ 20:35 in.^ 20:56 in.^ 24:11 in.^ 35:15 in.^ 39:15 in.^ 45:40 in.^ 46:55 in.^ IMDb also has Paul Glass down, but he is not credited, though I'd swear the second score has his hand in it, but having said that comment, the score to the second segment by Sauter is top-notch work, surely amongst the best of the series; I cited every single cue. The first score: skippable. TRACK JOB. "The Diary/A Matter of Semantics/Big Surprise/Professor Peabody's Last Lecture" TRACK JOB https://ok.ru/video/7636929022542 Lord, that third segment -- what a waste of life. (Score: 0:42 [possibly Glass], 3:19, 10:45, 13:05, 17:02, 26:05, 28:46, 30:27, 33:55 [maybe Prince or Nelson], 37:54, 43:39, 47:50)

Continuing SEASON 2:
"House - With Ghost/A Midnight Visit to the Neighborhood Blood Bank/Dr. Stringfellow's Rejuvenator/Hell's Bells" By: Gil Melle https://ok.ru/video/7636943964750 Highlights: 0:41 in.^ 4:02 in.^ 6:50 in.^(8:32) 11:44 in.^ 13:31 in.^ 14:50 in.^ 18:33 in.^ 20:16 in.^ 22:27 in.^ 30:38 in. 35:06 in. 41:30 in.^ 45:16 in.^ IMDb has down Glass as well, but only Melle is credited. So, ah ... do razors die and become ghosts, too? Segment three: And so, a whole town made of kindling, burned to the ground. Right? Right??? Right. Continuing SEASON 2:
Extra episodes since northing was posted Monday. "Pickman's Model/The Dear Departed/An Act of Chivalry" TRACK JOB https://ok.ru/video/7638803155534 IMDb has Glass listed, but no one is credited for the scores. "Cool Air/Camera Obscura/Quoth the Raven" By: Robert Bain / Paul Glass https://ok.ru/video/7638811019854 Highlights: 1:26 in.^ 10:16 in. 14:16 in. 16:36 in.^ 18:09 in. 21:41 in.^ 26:35 in.^ 32:21 in.^ 36:28 in.^ 43:12 in.^ 47:25 in. 48:38 in.^ No one is credited for the music for the third segment, a short segment, but with two score cues. "The Messiah on Mott Street/The Painted Mirror" By: Paul Glass (both segments) https://ok.ru/video/7638824323662 Highlights: 0:40 in.^ 5:30 in.^ 9:27 in.^ 11:43 in. 31:27 in. 34:13 in.^ 36:42 in. And the cue after the commercial break.^ Not his strongest work for the series. 42:10 in: is that a real album? Pre-existing music, in other words. LOL, the brontosaurus sounds like it grunted "WHAT?" like a bad Youtube video. "The Different Ones/Tell David.../Logoda's Heads" By: Oliver Nelson https://ok.ru/video/7638847982158 Highlights: 3:56 in.^ 10:49 in.^ 15:23 in. 15:58 in. 16:53 in. 20:47 in. 22:47 in.^ 34:29 in.^ 37:02 in.^ 37:15 in.^ 41:44 in.^ 46:46 in.^ 48:46 in.^ 50:10 in.^ The score for the third segment is entirely African percussion. IMDb also has Glass listed, but Nelson is the only credited composer. Unfortunately, the outcome of segment one -- for anybody who has ever watched the original "Twilight Zone" series -- was SUPER obvious and telegraphed really early.

Continuing SEASON 2:
"Green Fingers/The Funeral/The Tune in Dan's Cafe" By: Oliver Nelson / Gil Melle / Hal Mooney https://ok.ru/video/7638857222734 This is the only effort by Mooney for the series. Highlights: 0:42 in.^ 2:22 in. Greensleeves arrangement on cheesy synth.^ 10:50 in. Until the congas kick in, tell me this doesn't sound like it was taken straight out pf a "Thriller" score by Morton Stevens.^ 13:10 in.^ 16:44 in. 20:12 in.^ 25:23 in.^ 30:02 in.^ 34:41 in.^ 44:47 in. That rockin' source music cue which is cut off when the needle goes off the LP.^ 48:37 in.^ 49:40 in.^ IMDb has Glass listed, but he is not credited. I wonder how many times during that first season they the director had to call "CUT!" because Rod said "the Twilight Zone" instead of "the Night Gallery"... "You think I'm going to be stopped by some antique broad with a pitchfork?!" "Lindemann's Catch/A Feast of Blood/The Late Mr. Peddington" By: Paul Glass (segment one) https://ok.ru/video/7639057959502 Highlights: 0:40 in.^ 7:48 in. 11:06 in. And the cue after the commercial break^(second) 13:31 in. 15:04 in.^ 19:40 in.^ (Score: 21:53, 34:27, 46:45) The end credits specifically state Glass scored "Lidermann's Catch", but makes no mention of the scoring for the other two segments, which I guess means they are track jobs, so I am covering the last two segments as such. Continuing SEASON 2:
"The Miracle at Camafeo/The Ghost of Sorworth Place" By: Frank Skinner / Lalo Schifrin https://ok.ru/video/7639141124686 These are the only efforts by both composers for the series. Highlights: 0:41 in.^(1:29) 20:39 in. 22:08 in.^ 27:30 in.^(28:10) 32:51 in.^ 34:06 in. Short outtro cue and short intro cue.^ 36:25 in. 38:40 in.^ 46:04 in. With action material, for the most touchable ghost ever.^ Skinner, a talented composer, was wasted here. Most of his scoring is just Spanish guitar noodling for source cues that go on and on. "The Waiting Room/Last Rites for a Dead Druid" By: John Lewis and Robert Bain / Paul Glass https://ok.ru/video/7639259548238 This is the final effort by Bain for the series. This is the final effort by Lewis for the series. Highlights: 0:41 in. This is literally the only score cue in segment one. Based upon the prior Bain effort, I think it's clear the orchestral opening is Leewis, the and solo acoustic guitar noodling is Bain.^ 27:51 in.^ 33:04 in.^ 42:15 in.^ 44:37 in.^ 48:47 in. Action music from Glass, with touches of Melle.^ Rod Serling: "...horrify the heck out of you..."
