SEASON 1:

TV series that began in 1969.

The annoying theme music is by Gil Melle.
The season three theme is presumably by Eddie Sauter.

Due to the nature of episodes having multiple story segments in them, I am breaking up score highlights to reflect segments and may have no make other notes where applicable.

The series was a mess -- segments played by themselves, segments combined with other episodes, edited down versions of "The Sixth Sense" included in re-runs, so there 's strictly speaking no real episode order, only a loosely structured one, which I am going with.

"Night Gallery" (0) (the feature-length pilot)
By: Billy Goldenberg (as "William Goldenberg") (all three segments)
https://ok.ru/video/5648025389646

This is the only effort by Goldenberg for the series.

Highlights:
  • 0:23 in.^
  • 7:37 in.^

  • 14:53 in.^
  • 17:33 in.^

  • 1:08:40 in.^
  • 1:10:10 in.
  • 1:13:56 in.^
  • 1:20:24 in.^
  • 1:22:11 in.^
  • 1:29:55 in.^

    Composer credit: 1:37:26 in.

Trivia: I have no idea (I know, I could look it up, but I'm not going to) if an eye transplant like that for temporary sight, was ever a thing, but I do know that a few years ago I read about doctors in the U.S. transplanting pig eyes into people so they can see again. I couldn't re-locate that, but I did find news articles from more recently where in 2022 they were reporting a protein from pig eyes was used to help 20 blind people see again. I assure you -- the quote below is purely coincidental and not some oddball double entendre on my end.

    "You're a swine, sir."

    "The Dead Man/The Housekeeper" (1)
    By: Robert Prince (both segments)

'Annoying'? That's a funny way to spell 'creepy'.

Never been a fan of the way-too-aggressive Sauter theme.

    Annoying? More like ICONIC.

    Continuing SEASON 1:

"Room with a View/The Little Black Bag/The Nature of the Enemy"
By: Robert Prince (all three segments)
    https://ok.ru/video/7635946768974

    Highlights:
  • About 1:20 in.^
  • 11:13 in.

  • 31:01 in.^

  • 41:36 in.^

Man, that second segment was good and perfectly ended with a focus on the word "WASTE", but then that final segment ... lord.

"You get old, you get smart."

    Out-of-context quote...
"You got to know what kind of package you're getting..."

"The House/Certain Shadows on the Wall"
    By: Robert Prince (both segments)
    https://ok.ru/video/7635960597070

    Highlights:
  • 0:56 in.^
  • 8:56 in.^
  • 17:33 in.^
  • 19:50 in.^
  • 23:20 in.^

  • 26:35 in.^
  • 29:20 in.^
  • 36:13 in.^
  • 38:48 in.
  • 45:10 in.^
  • 47:25 in.

I'm sure there's some kind of message the first segment is trying to imply, but in the end it's not entirely clear (though I have an idea) and because of all the build up, you expect something more, something to actually happen, some kind of payoff, but nothing happens. It just ends on a fade to a commercial break, like an unfinished episode. But having said that, the scoring for this segment is the best of the series thus far.

It will be a while before you reach my favorite episodes, "Green Fingers*/The Funeral/The Tune in Dan's Cafe" (Season Two, Episode 15)

...and especially "The Caterpillar/Little Girl Lost" (Season 2, Episode 22).

I don't have any comments about those episodes though. The nearest episode I make a comment on is the upcoming "A Question of Fear/The Devil is Not Mocked".

No comments because...? The episodes I mentioned lack original scores?

No, no, I mean no comments about the episodes themselves. Score coverage as usual.

Got it. I think Eddie Sauter scored the eps in question.
