Do you have a preference? Please share your thoughts. Thanks.

The original in the Film, also known as "Twilight and Mist" sung by Henry Thomas :

and here is a version with different lyrics renamed "Memory of You" sung by Carly Paoli :

And here is the beautiful full orchestra version of James Horner's THE LUDLOWS Theme along with a montage of scenes from LEGENDS OF THE FALL. If you haven't seen the movie, be warned that the following will contain **SPOILERS**:

Fantastic score, IMHO.

I think what actually happened is that there is the song, with accompanying piano (Twilight and Mist), and it segues into The Ludlows when the orchestra kicks in.

The cue as presented on the CD starts with part of the piano piece we hear in the film.

I'm assuming you have the Intrada CD expanded score?

Great overview and review here:

Yes indeed, I have the Expanded Intrada. It's superb. LEGENDS OF THE FALL may be my favorite James Horner Score. Definitely in my top 2 or 3 by him. It seemed to have been quite meaningful to Horner himself. If you've seen the Blu-ray of his Max Steiner Award Ceremony in Vienna, he is brought to tears by the orchestra's playing of it that night. It is quite emotional to watch.

James Horner’s Magnum Opus. This score is a stunning achievement on every level. Just brilliant.

My favourite Horner score amongst a treasure trove of brilliance and an embarrassment of riches.

I was at that Vienna concert and saw how moved the Maestro was. He is still missed by me to this day.

Thanks for bringing this score the attention it deserves Zooba

That's so cool that you were at the Vienna Concert BrenKel! I would loved to have been there. But I was however so very fortunate to meet the Maestro in Los Angeles/Studio City at the TODD-AO Scoring Stage when he was recording THE SPITFIRE GRILL in 1996. I've told the story on the board before. I was working at the CBS Radford Studio lot where the TODD Scoring Stage is located and on my lunch ventured over to TODD to see who was scoring that day. It indeed was Horner and he was outside on a break when I walked over. And after I told him how much his music meant to me and thanked him and shook his hand, he said "Please come in for a listen." And of course I did. He was so soft spoken and wonderful and generous to me, a complete stranger. He truly was Amazing.

Here is that wonderful performance of "The Ludlows" with David Newman conducting and Maestro Horner's emotional reaction at the end of piece. Hope this brings back fond memories for you BrenKel. Most likely bittersweet.

When they closed the TODD-AO Scoring Stage:

At the session for THE SPITFIRE GRILL that James invited me "In for a listen" I remember he conducted the following cue "Remembering Eli". I swear he must have conducted it with the orchestra at least 5 to 7 times. He was that much of a perfectionist. It was only about a 2 minute cue but he wanted to get it just right and so he did it over and over again. Just amazing to watch the care and time he took. And you could tell that the orchestra was with him all the way in getting the timing as right as they could.

That’s a fantastic story Zooba. You must have felt like you were dreaming.
I was fortunate enough to meet the Maestro at the Royal Albert Hall in April 2015, two days after seeing him at Titanic Live. He even did a selfie with me!

Excellent. Please share your photo with James here if you can. I'd love to see it. I think lots of us would. I wasn't so lucky. I met Horner in 1996 and I don't think I had a Cell Phone with a Camera at that time or even a regular camera or a disposable. I didn't even have a Beeper which I think were "the thing" then. Flip Phones were just about to come out though, but not in time for me. I would have loved to have taken a photo with James. Dang, I guess it wasn't meant to be. But, I'm happy for you!

A year later though in 1997 I got to work with Steven Spielberg on AMISTAD and made sure I had at least a disposable camera with me on set. I got photos with Steven, Morgan Freeman and one of my all time favorite actors Anthony Hopkins! What a thrill. They were all totally cool. I'll post mine if you post you and James. Wow, you met Horner it seems just two months before his tragic passing. That's amazing. Ciao for now.

Did you ever make a thread about all your adventures as an extra, Zooba? You should consider turning it into an article, and have it published on FSM or something.

I was also in Vienna in 2013, sitting just two rows behind Horner. I also got the chance to interview him during breakfast earlier in the day. Fantastic memories, all the more precious after his death. But sadly, I didn't see his face during the concert, so I had to rely on the official footage later on to see his reactions.

The concert event also saw LOADS of FSMers participating. I organized a pre-concert dinner, and I've never seen a greater turnout from both here and JWFAN.

But we digress....LEGENDS OF THE FALL is an amazing score, of course, pretty much everyone agrees on that, although I'm not as into it as some of you, with knowledge of different versions of themes etc..

Thanks so much, Zooba. I didn't know about Carly Paoli's beautiful vocal version, which is available on two of her albums.
