No need for forgiveness, Ron (tee hee). I've never been too precious about the films I love, to feel the need to defend their virtue with a battery of like-minded reviews (or general consensus from 6 reviews from a website). If you love the film, that's fine.
As your original comments were the only "critique" posted about the film, I thought it a good idea to offer an alternative point of view.
Negatiity, after all, is never the final word on anything.
I watched the movie many years ago, never forgot the theme. Last night I decided to watch it again and it's just as great a film, with the score sticking out to me as especially moving. Can't wait to hear it in full!
I am also hoping something else appears in the next few weeks. I had imagined a popular title like 'Ghost' or 'Witness' would have been released, if not I am happy with Intrada's Resurrection. That said I am sad that the 100th Anniversary for such a great composer will have come and gone minimal releases to reflect his output, a collection of works with Franju would have been great.
Indeed, as Laurent points above, JUDEX itself is rather short score but with more Franju stuff (Pleins feux sur l'assassin etc.) it would make an interesting release for sure.
Was there ever any information regarding the availability of the master tapes for Jarre's GAMBIT?
Am enjoying the comments about the film, pro and con. I recall when it came out, didn't see it, now want to see it for the usual purpose of evaluating the music in context. Went to the library to get DVD that had been put on reserve; turns out there are a couple other productions with the same title, the subject of this thread not one of them on any of the shelves. Grrrr. Will find alternative means.
