Tonight, I watched rhe semi-effective, typically colourful Universal TV movie, Fear No Evil, from 1969.

You may recall that the film stars Louis Jourdan as the cool, suave, handsome, unflappably rational psychiatrist Dr David Sorrell, doctor to the bedevilled; and Bradford Dillman and Lynda Day George as the husband and wife bedevilled by an antique mirror.

Directed by Paul Wendkos, known for The Mephisto Waltz and Btotherhood of the Bell, the film is rich in his distinctive use of disorienting and disturbing camera work. It's a stylish piece of feature-length television even if it is not a slam-dunk effective story.

I liked Billy Goldenberg's score very much. Very much indeed. It predates Jerry Goldsmith's especially effective Mephisto Waltz score, but is evocative of it in parts. It also evokes Goldenberg's excellent work on shows like Columbo.

I would very much like to be able to get this score on disc, if the pure music recording still exists.

Could it be a possible for release? Has it ever been looked into?

Who's seen it? What do you think?

Cheers

Don't know anything about this but the same composer - director combo teamed up again for the Legend of Lizzie Borden in 1975 which is one of my top 5 holy grails - A DVD came out some years ago from a fresh remaster which could hopefully be utilised for a proper HD release.

My mind always goes to Spielberg/Williams on these things....here's a director, Paul Wendkos, who worked with Williams a few times, working with a composer, Billy Goldenberg, who worked with Spielberg a few times. Fastforward a few years, and the respective composer and director would forge an iconic relationship of their own. Wonky connections.

But yeah, I've never seen FEAR NO EVIL, but I believe I had some audio cuts on a CD-R once; a Goldenberg sampler of sorts that was sent to me by a fellow fan. Wonder where that went.
