I don't think much of Tarantino. He's not saying anything nobody has said before.
Simple answer is, if you like an existing version of something, then fine, stick with it. Nobody is making you watch a different version.
I've seen 3 versions of Dune. And read the original books. Each has their own valid creative ideas. If I thought Lynch's was perfect, I wouldn't have bothered with the others
Tarantino might not be saying anything new, but he's saying it.
And Tarantino recently praised A Fistful of Dollars as one of cinema's masterpieces and that film is of course a remake. I wonder why he ever bothered to see it. And why would you watch The Maltese Falcon when there was already the one with Ricardo Cortez? Or the American remake of the Gernan remake of the French film Fanfare d'Amour? It's called Some Like It Hot.
I'd never known those were remakes. I think Tarantiono's comparing the remakes we know vs what you are comparing as less noticeable remakes.
A lot of what Tarantino vomits up is creatively bereft, anyway. He's made his 'career' by standing on the shoulders of giants. He's never had a creative moment in his life, he scrap books the ideas of truly talented people.

So what you're saying is you're not a fan?
I love Tarantino, both as a filmmaker and the way he speaks about film. Of course, I don't agree with his assessment in this particular case, but can't have 'em all.

Moral of the story is apparently we need another Shogun. Oh boy.
