It looks like Solisti & Orchestra del Cinema Italiano are reissuing their out of print titles DANGER: DIABOLIK and THRILLING, and adding two new CD titles.

As we know, they specialise in recreating old Italian film scores with what seems to be a combination of sampling, recording solo instruments anew, and synthesising the rest on a computer.

Their work can be good, but synthesised strings can sound horribly fake.

Their DIABOLIK and THRILLING, which are driven more by the solo instruments than the strings, were good.

When they recreated the Leone Dollars trilogy scores, however, they were not as good in my opinion.

Cheers

Thanks for your view. I was just wondering what are these releases and should I order them (primarily interested in Once upon a time in the west/America).

Diabolical has 2/3 additional tracks ,this time around. There's another version of the song and the rest seem to be the same track title ( with a part a, b, c). I thunk they.are suspense cues. Now, I don't know this, but they could have been grouped together on their original and separated here. Just a thought/ possibility. Before we rush out and.buy it again.

Music Box Records has the back covers of these new releases. For DIABOLIK I did a comparison with the 2014 2-CD (paired with FAFDM).

Tracks #1-#5 identical;
#6 "Nella Grotta" ~39 seconds longer;
#7-#10 identical;
#11 "La Collana Di Lady Clarke" ~18 seconds longer;
#12 "Commando Di Notte" is split into 3 parts (#12/#14/#17) with a combined track length identical to the 2014 release;
#13 "Deep Down" (Alternative English Vocal) 3:09 new;
#15 "La Regola Del Gioco (instrumental from THRILLING)" ~16 seconds longer;
#16, #18-#23 identical;
#24 "La Regola Del Gioco (vocal from THRILLING)" ~16 seconds longer.

So all in all 1 new track (#13 "Deep Down" (Alternative English Vocal)) and several seconds added on 4 tracks.

I applaud the effort but find myself hardly listening to these versions (the latest THRILLING was hit or miss for me as well).

I guess the 2014 incarnation will suffice for me.
