Yes, same here. I get that the director/producers wanted a certain orchestral sound for the film, but that they didn't have the budget for it, so Wallace had to make do with samples. Good samples in this day and age, sure, but still audibly samples. You won't be able to convince me that this is the way to go, no matter how well the music is written. I somewhat disagree. It depends on how you use the samples and the type of samples you have. Sorry, David, but I'm going to put you on the spot! David Coscina, who is a very good friend of mine, as many of you know... and least I hope you do, is an incredible symphonic composer who has written numerous intro pieces for my podcast, film scores, and concert works. There are some pieces he sends me in which the work he has done with his samples is almost indistinguishable from the real thing. He has sent me mockups of his concert work and then samples of the piece performed by live players and I have to say... the mockup sounds better. I have pretty good ears for these things, so whatever David is doing, he's doing something right and not letting the technology limit his creativity in the symphonic world. I mean, just listen to this piece David wrote for me just after James Horner's passing. https://www.cinematicsound.net/audio/Horner-Cinematic-Radio-Intro.mp3 -Erik- Just for reference this was recorded with 65 players. About the same size as Silverado. 40 players for the string only sections. Nothing that samples would need to bolster. It sounds like well recorded/engineered real musicians, as was the case confirmed by you Roger. Congrats on this release!

Great news! Always a pleasant surprise when a physical release is expanded over the digital album program (the fantastic Fear Street trilogy from Intrada being the most dramatic example of this, ever). Yavar

SUPERCELL Corey Wallace Label: Intrada INT 7181 Film Date: 2023 Album Date: 2024 Time: 67:55 Tracks: 30 Price: $22.99 Intrada is proud to present an expanded edition of Corey Wallace's exciting exciting music for Supercell, possibly one of the best scores from last year. The score is a throwback to the large symphonic tradition of the '80s and '90s, which themselves were products of large epic scores of decades prior. The score features a vast symphonic soundscape performed by the Budapest Scoring Orchestra in Hungary, capturing the thrilling, frightening and emotional musical journey of the onscreen characters. A musical highlight, featured in the trailer below, is "William's Escape," one of the most exciting and adventurous cues to be heard in years. The album was produced by Wallace and mastered by Dietrich Schoenemann. Supercell (2023) is a disaster thriller centered around a young man named William (played by Daniel Diemer), who, after the death of his storm-chasing father, decides to follow in his footsteps. William joins a team of storm chasers led by his father's former colleague, intent on uncovering the mysteries of violent, unpredictable supercell storms. Tensions rise as they encounter increasingly perilous conditions, blending high-stakes action with emotional drama. THE SCORE 01. Heartbeats (2:36) 02. Biblical (3:02) 03. SUPERCELL is one terrific score. Great themes and wonderful orchestration. Been sampling it on Spotify and will be ordering this gem from Intrada this week(along with THE OLD MAN AND THE SEA.) Wallace marks himself as a composer to watch. Thank you, Intrada

This is a great score! Yes, indeed, very Williams like but in a good way, certainly by someone with some talent. I absolutely can not understand how someone has heard a sampled score here, I can only attribute this grave mistake to bad internet streaming and very bad sound samples - or some bad ears! Or all of it, jeez.

This is such a great score -- and the cd release is infinitely more satisfying than the previous digital release, both in terms of its sequencing, and also with the inclusion of several beautiful cues that were inexplicably unreleased previously. It is definitely a throwback to John Williams in his heyday, and for me, that is a wonder. Can't recommend it highly enough!
