Ah man, another classic actor I grew up watching from Forbidden Planet to Police Woman. RIP.

I always think of him from as the unlucky brother in The Sons of Katie Elder (1965); by the time I'd watched Police Woman (1974-) I had started to notice him in other films, often not recalling his name. Last week I saw him in Anzio (1968) but I don't consider his role ... or, indeed, the film ... a highlight of his long career.

Gunfight at ok corral I think I saw him, and then he was just a stalwart in everything, 50s n 60s war films n westerns. Yes, was good as foil for Angie Dickinson in Police Woman. Rip Mr Holliman, another familiar face gone. frown
Good innings, great age.

Apart from what others have already mentioned, Holliman is the lead in "Where is Everybody?", the first Twilight Zone episode, which I watched again not too long ago...well directed, well written, and of course a fine performance by Holliman. "Where is Everybody?" is more than just the series premiere, it was part of the zeitgeist of the US space program. Rod Serling was a hell of a writer who had his hand on the pulse of the era.

Anyway, Holliman was a good, reliable actor who had a long career across every genre. Well done.

Criswell predicts that Howard L will mention that Earl Holliman was in "Where Is Everybody?" and that it was a major contribution to his baseball coaching.

Howard talks about "The Zone"? Why, that's so refreshing to know! I thought his one topic was his obsession over the state of this board circa 1998-2000.

Where you been Phelps? Howard don't talk about anything else but Twilight Zone, Outer limits, Trek, baseball, Best years of our lives and Kes. All roads, any subject, lead to one of the above

Apart from Forbidden Planet as the cook who asked robot Robbie to duplicate a bottle of bourbon and got sixty gallons, he was henchman Mingo in a classic Film Noir entitled The Big Combo (1955). He was the lead in a short-lived rodeo series: Wide Country (1962-1963).

Yer all a bunch of wisenheimers ya know that? I didn't write that headline on the OP's link! But just yesterday I saw EH on TCM in some little flick from the 50s called Tennessee Champ. He played a punch drunk ex-boxer to Dewey Martin (another TZ alum!)'s rising star in the middleweight ring. Forbidden Planet followed but I didn't rewatch for the zillionth time. Were these movies scheduled by unfortunate happenstance or what. Weird. SERLING weird.

I remember EH in some movie when he was young, wearing very tight jeans. I can't remember which one.

I remember an interview during which Holliman described his experiences while filming GIANT. While on location in Marfa, TX he was assigned a room with Dennis Hopper. He received quite an education.
