Here's a special treat for the holidays (3 of 5): A new Excalibur re-recording of Dimitri Tiomkin's epic score by the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, under the baton of Richard Kaufman

Wow! I was not expecting a re-recording (and kinda surprised Stromberg didn’t conduct), but this still quite a surprise after LLL’s attempt to release the original recording fell through years ago. It’s been ages since I last saw the film so I don’t remember much about the music, though the samples in that video sound quite good.

Nice! Golden Age plus a new recording, that‘s rare these days!

Wonderful ! Magnificent ! I am so pleased to see Intrada do this without the drawn out Kickstarter nail biting dramatics. The “golden age” of film music will not go quietly into the dark good night. Thank you so much everyone at Intrada. Now it is up to all us to make this release a total success.

I'm looking forward to the backstory concerning this recording. When was it recorded? How long has it been "waiting in the wings?" Was Doug there?

Intrada released Bruce Broughton's score for the 1990 TV version as well.

What happened exactly? Did they not have the right license or were the tapes unusable/lost

So many questions.
Who financed it?
Are the choral parts included?
Who did the orchestral prep?

No mention of it on dimitritiomkin.com though that might be by agreement.
