What a great set ! I just listened to disc 6 and its way better than people would think because those episodes are less succesful. And the box set is perfect : Booklets in each of the 3 volumes + another in the box. Its almost a dream to have these but i never saw anything about this one here. Do people have it and are you happy to have it ?

I am very happy about it. Too bad it is not the complete scores as the Star Trek boxset but it's understandable: not enough buyers, not enough fans of the series.
I'm glad it exists. Let's hope we get a Mannix boxset.

It's a terrific set. I'd like to have heard a little more of the music from composers other than Lalo (such as Benny Golson), but of course I understand the idea behind ensuring that all the Schifrin scores were given the fullest representation in the set.

Over the Summer I did a rewatch of all seven seasons and I realised how much music was retracked over the course of the series, and how so little new music was written towards the end.

The whole CD package - booklet, design, Jon Burlingame's notes and the scores themselves - were brilliantly done.

I was not aware that there's scores missing. Not that many ?

I don't know that there 'scores missing' - that's not what I meant, merely that the fullest representation of music seemed to be of Schifrin's music. Understandably so.

Too bad, Jerry Fielding's scores are not complete as well as Robert Prince's scores. But on the whole, it's a very good boxset.

Thank you Thomas, that's more what I meant. And yes it's a great boxset!

There are no missing scores but only poorly represented scores, short for incomplete, in other words, scores that only have one cue.

See for example:
(season 5)
Flip Side by Benny Golson *
Kitara by Robert Hazard
(season 6)
The Bride by Robert Hazard *
Mindbend by Robert Prince *
The Visitors by George Romanis
Blues by Benny Golson
Nerves by Robert Drasnin
(season 7)
Ultimatum by Duane Tatro
Incarnate by Benny Golson

* important cues missing from the boxset.

On the positive side, they included unused alternate music themes and uncredited music by Robert Drasnin (Echo of Yesterday) and Jack Urbont (The Seal, Fool's Gold). It's an important move in order to identify the music used in some specific episodes.

Compared to the 1992 GNP Crescendo sampler CD, it is a giant step for MISSION’s aficionados.
As Simon states, Schifrin gets the best representation and if a MANNIX boxset would appear, that will be in the same vein, meaning Schifrin first.

Another poorly represented composer that was essential to season 3 and 4 was Richard Markowitz. A name associated to The Wild Wild West.

He was, although I have to admit I was never that enthusiastic about his M:I music (and some of his WWW scores also underwhelmed me). I'd certainly liked to have hear more material from Golson, Fielding, Prince and so forth. I must say I also liked Jack Urbont's very dramatic and grand scoring, having been reaquainted with it while watching the blu-rays.

I'd love a MANNIX set, but alas, I remain sceptical...

Why is there a line over all your posts, Rollin Hand?

It is a deliberate choice.

As fot the DVD-set, so it goes for the score-set:
Money well spent.
Those sets get a lot of exercise in the summer time.
