It occurs to me that although many mock and Ridicule and dislike Moonraker as a movie. To those of us that like it there is something magical about this Movie. Those of us that like it don't just like it, we love it! Personally I absolutely ADORE Moonraker. It seems to go beyond just enjoyment and almost touch us personally. Just look at our own NSBulk who met his future wife whilst watching Moonraker and states he was brought to tears listening to the cues. It has a power that almost touches our soles, maybe it is to do with originally watching it at the 'right' age. I've read a number of posts in this thread that reflect that certain special something about this film, and peoples emotional connection with it. I think that is why so many clamoured for an extended complete soundtrack. It goes without saying the musical score is fabulous. Though Moonraker means allot to so many of us. So once again, a very deep and personal thank you to all involved in making this release a reality. Viva Moonraker! True. It was a very silly movie, even for a Bond flick. However, it contains more entertainment by frame than any contemporary US film has in decades. Make American Films Great Again,

Moonraker is in my top 3 most enjoyable movie of the series. Not necessarily my favorite, but it’s so easy to watch and just put on and enjoy that it gets watched much more than most. Can’t wait to finally have the matching soundtrack! So excited!

No, I think you mean John Petersen, who said in an interview, that his MV-scores had been destroyed in the fire (https://celluloidtunes.no/a-conversation-with-miami-vice-and-mtv-composer-john-petersen/). So then we come back to the question. The composer claims that his tapes of the music from the series were destroyed in that fire, but Mike Matessino claims that the tapes were not there. Considering that the complete score from all seasons of "Miami Vice" is my biggest Holy Grail in film music since forever, who should I believe?? Petersen or Matessino ??

I have no Bond scores in my modest collection. Is Moonraker a good place to start? “Goldfinger” is one of the best James Bond film scores and the most iconic of them all. However, “Moonraker” is also a very good soundtrack to start with.

That being said “Flight into Space” is a masterpiece and this soundtrack is worth owning because of that piece. Definitely a must-listen track for fans of classic film scores.

No one comes close to "The Living Daylights". THE greatest Bond score, and one of Top5 greatest Bond movies. Meanwhile, my shipping status has changed to pending.

I have no Bond scores in my modest collection. Is Moonraker a good place to start? It depends on what you expect and are looking for. MOONRAKER is perhaps the most gorgeous Bond score, it's lush, with many beautiful passages in typical late John Barry fashion. On the other hand, it is not the most typical Bond score, so if you start with MOONRAKER, you may not get the best introduction to the classic Barry Bond sound. However, if you generally like (late, romantic) John Barry scores, then you definitely should get MOONRAKER, regardless of how you feel about Bond.

THE LIVING DAYLIGHTS is indeed excellent—and a brilliant swansong for John Barry. I do think that DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER and OHMSS are his greatest achievements in 007 music, but it's such a strong set of scores that ranking them is, for the most part, like trying to decide whether this brilliant thing is more brilliant than that brilliant thing, when at the end of the day they're both still brilliant. To the poster's actual question, there is certainly nothing wrong with starting with MOONRAKER. Go for it. There are even better ones, yes, but it is an excellent score. First class. Cheers

Especially if you grew up in the 70's/80's and that was the foundation for your love of soundtracks.
