Any 'synth' score by a Film Composer counts...but just one...and limited to 5 in total. Bit of fun.

Here are mine...

WISDOM by Danny Elfman
I always forget how much I love this score, but every time it comes up for play, I'm reminded how brilliant a work it is by the up-and-coming Elfman, at the time.
CLAN OF THE CAVE BEAR by Alan Silvestri
Silvestri did quite a few electronic scores during his earlier years, and I love many of them (DELTA FORCE has some cool/mega-moments too) but this by turns soothing and jarring Synclavier effort is the one I return to most.
RUSSKIES by James Newton Howard
JNH started out in the all-keyboards score arena (having been a keyboardist for many a rock star prior) with scores to OFF LIMITS, FIVE CORNERS and such. But this one is my favourite, if only for the gorgeous Danny's Theme which runs throughout. It's easily the most accomplished by him in this field, to me.
RUNAWAY by Jerry Goldsmith
Easily the best all-synth scores by JG, as it has so much going on for a keyboard-based work. One can tell it's been layered out like an orchestral score in its design and execution. Thrilling and scary by turns, with a nice Finale in tribute to Christopher Cross.
DRIVING MISS DAISY by Hans Zimmer
I was actually shocked when I learned that this score was purely electronic. The Main Theme is as catchy as they come and the score has a real deep, underlying emotion to it. Excellent IN the film. Perfect AWAY from it.

Let me add:

NO WAY OUT by Maurice Jarre.

Just re-watched the movie yesterday, so the memory is fresh. Still a good fun 80s popcorn thriller. Was quite a WHOA moment when suddenly Brad Pitt was in the picture too (back when I originally saw the movie I did not know Brad Pitt existed). Maurice Jarre's electronic score was excellent, worked really well in the context of the movie, and I also enjoy it on album.

I'm not keen on synth scores, I assume the following are.

Randy Edelman- Dragonheart
Mark McKenzie- Dragonheart: Vengence
James Horner- Fields of Dreams
Alan Silvestri- Fern Gully
Carlo Siliotto- Fluke

Wow, really?! Like I said I'm just going off my ears.

I think only the Mark McKenzie and Alan Silvestri ones are synth from sol's list (not sure about FLUKE).

I added Jarre instead of adding composers such as John Carpenter or Vangelis, who are known for electronic scores.

One of my all time favorite film scores is BLADE RUNNER, and I also love 1492- CONQUEST OF PARADISE. Both are by Vangelis, but are these really "synth" scores? Yes, they do have a lot of synths and electronics, but also many acoustic instruments and even vocals. I think BOUNTY was mostly (or all?) synths, I don't know, it's not been released and I haven't seen the movie in years. Obviously, there is a lot of room between purely "synth" scores and purely "acoustic" scores, where synths and organic sounds just mix.

It would be helpful if you all listed synth scores to choose from.

I'll throw in mine.

Where The River Runs Black — James Horner. Very emotional and nuanced score. Minimalistc, yet warm.
Dark — Ben Frost. Hypnotic modern synth score from a composer who understands how to stay with in the current approach of 'not getting in the way' and yet still deliver a deeply thought through work.
Prince of Darkness — John Carpenter. So scary it scary!
Beyond Rangoon — Hans Zimmer. Stunningly beautiful and captivating work. Wonderful haunting melody that sticks with you.
No way out — Maurice Jarre. Briljant, relentless, pulsating score.
No Mercy — Alan Silvestri. Eregentic action score with Silvestri's distinctive synclavir sound an exotic flair.

I was tempted to add Poledouris No Man's Land as well. (That would have made a third 'No'.) But I reckon the drum kit isn't electronic, and there's electric guitar so it doesn't make the mark. Terrific score though.

Yes Nic, the line can become a bit blurry at times.
The Electronic Ensemble thing isn't quite synth, despite sounding very much like it.
WITNESS by Jarre is one such case.
Is Horner's NAME OF THE ROSE electronic ensemble or all synth?

There will always be borderline cases, but I think it's fruitful to also include those that are predominantly synths, maybe with the addition of some acoustic instruments here and there.

You're absolutely killin' me with only five here. There are so many! Also, one feels forced to pick classics over those slightly less-talked-about gems that deserve more spotlight.

But for starters:

Blade Runner (Vangelis)
Beyond Rangoon (Zimmer)
Miami Vice (Hammer)
The Keep (Tangerine Dream)
Scarface (Moroder)

The Andromeda Strain by Gil Mellé
"The Mutants" serial from classic Jon Pertwee DOCTOR WHO era (1972) by Tristram Cary
Il caso Mattei by Piero Piccioni
Jerry Fielding's Escape from Alcatraz
John Scott's Inseminoid, which sounds like a JNT/Davison-era WHO by Roger Limb

Gotta beg to differ on the Jarre mate!

No Way Out is synth ensemble with EVI and live percussion

Witness is all electronic

Gorilla's In The Mist is similar to No Way Out albeit with full orchestra throughout

Jacob's Ladder is a mix of...everything

Gaby (real nice one I played yesterday) is synth and cello soli.

Distant Thunder, ensemble

Apology, two man synth band

Julia & Julia, see above

Year Of Living Dangerously synth with live percussion and ethnic instrumentation

Pretty varied, no? Nice to see No Way Out get some love - I adore that score!

Interesting choices, I am obviously a fan of analog synthesizers, but not so much of digital synthesizers. But then the moog synth can sound quite similar to the electric organ, so I do find "synth" a bit vague here.

Many of my favourite scores are organ scores by Piero Piccioni, but Il caso Mattei has moog too and it is certainly an interesting choice!

Anyway, my favourite synth score is probably François de Roubaix - La Mer Est Grande / L'Antartique (1973). Definitively the only electronic score I've listened many times. Then I'm sure I have hundreds of scores with moog synth, but I don't remember the details of the instrumentation of every score.

Runaway - Jerry Goldsmith
Blade Runner - Vangelis
Unlawful Entry - James Horner (I have the cello sound as electronica in my hesd, or was it an e-cello?)
Criminal Law - Goldsmith
I would qualify No Man‘s Land by Poledouris also as in the E-Corner.

Witness I bought because of the barn music wink as did many. It was only availbe as a MC here back then.

Many of my favourite scores are organ scores by Piero Piccioni, but I don't think he used the moog on most of those? Il caso Mattei was probably with an organ drones?

Can you recommend the films that feature those organ scores? Love the instrument, since Interstellar (but triggered earlier by Zelda's Ganon's Theme and Mission To Mars), such a worldly unique sound.
