I’ve told my own story countless times, so that’s boring. Quickly: Discovered the magazine via an ad on filmmusic.com ca. 1995. Started subscribing in 1996, by converting kroner to dollars in a Norwegian bank, and sending off $20 in an envelope. Later acquired all preceding issues via a member that was there almost from the beginning (his name escapes me, annoyingly). Which means I have the first-ever newsletter sent out.
But I’m curious about the original 11 people that Lukas sent out his newsletter to. Where are they today? Are they still with us? Here’s a pic I took from issue # 2 in 1990 (scrobbled out the adresses, just in case they still live there). Amer is still with us, posting regularly (he should tell his own story about how he discovered this magazine). So is Paul Andrew Maclean - not an Original 11 member, but listed as part of the Goldsmith society. But what about the rest? Anyone know where they're at?
Wow, Thor. It was right around then that I wrote the college kid/FSM publisher after coming upon Fred Karlin's "Listening to the Movies" at the library and reading the whole damn thing. Karlin had listed FSM among other go-to places. We all know the rest. Seems quaint now how phone numbers and addresses were posted without reservation. Different world these days!

Also I remember one guy from Australia died in a car accident....
That would be Howard Clucas, although I think that happened in South Africa. Lukas had the task of reporting on this tragedy during that first year of the newsletter.

Of course, I had to go look for that now, and there it was:
I may not have been one of the OG 11, but I was definitely in that initial group of members, signing on in 1990. I remember when we also had a typed up reference guide for other members, essentially a "soundtrack profile", of our favorite scores, what type of scores we liked and our contact addresses.
Yes, I was hoping Lukas could share some stories -- either here or on his blog. We've heard his own FSM origin story, but would be neat with some more info on those early years after that, pre-label, and what happened to the OG 11 (well, 9, if you take away Amer, and now that we know what happened to Howard Clucas).
