I posted this a few years ago on the non-film forum, and it was suggested I move it here, given Prince's many film and TV credits for shows like The Streets of San Francisco, Mission: Impossible, Land of the Giants, Wonder Woman, Bionic Woman, the Name of the Game, Columbo, Banacek, McCloud, Wild Wild West, and so on. I so much enjoyed his jazz albums that I thought I'd listen to some of his TV/film stuff. Recommendations? I know a lot of you are aware of his television music for countless 70s shows, but I just re-listened to a couple of lps of his that were quite impressive. The first one on RCA from 1961 features two ballets (choreographed by Jerome Robbins) in an orchestral jazz setting--Events and N.Y. Export Op. Jazz. The second album--shared credit with Teo Macero--features 6 works by Macero and 5 by Prince; this is more in a chamber jazz style. For me, the RCA album is a real treat and would love to get a cd release. But that old lp sounds great. If you like his tv music or have an interest in third-stream composition, check these out.

Funnily enough, I just watched Squirm on blu, which has an appropriately gooey and creepy score by him

ROBERT PRINCE TV SELECTION CBS • “The Night of the Doomsday Formula” * (The Wild Wild West) • “The Night of the Winged Terror” * (The Wild Wild West) • “Memory: Zero” (Mannix) • “Homecoming” * (Mission: Impossible) • “Mindbend” * (Mission: Impossible) NBC • Rod Serling’s Night Gallery (season 1) ABC • “With Affection, Jack the Ripper” (The Sixth Sense) • “And Scream by the Light of the Moon, the Moon” (The Sixth Sense) • “Hall of Mirrors” (The Streets of San Francisco) * episodes that made me notice his musical style filled with weird and distorted modernistic sounds. Review of “The Night of the Doomsday Formula” (1968) https://www.hometheaterforum.com/community/threads/tributes-to-your-favorite-classic-tv-stars.376852/post-5306394

I really like his scoring and wish it was better represented on CD. I also liked his theme for 'The Fantastic Journey' (even if the show itself was, eh, not so good).

I love the Robbins ballet music by Prince - it's fantastic. The mentioned film from a few years ago is easily available on DVD (and Blu-ray, I think - I have one or the other). What's more interesting is that not only is there the RCA recording of the ballet conducted by Prince, coupled with another ballet score, Events from 1961 (which I've never heard - it says "excerpts" so I have no idea what that means) but the sure bet is the earlier first recording on Warner Bros. conducted by Prince, coupled with the Dances from West Side Story, which is NOT the Bernstein version of the dances (the one Bernstein put together - this one's arranged by Prince and is great) - that's what's on YouTube, unless someone has put up the other in the last year or so. If memory serves, what's on YouTube is bad and mono - the stereo is great. I have it on LP AND reel-to-reel. I tried and tried to license the Warner Bros. LP from Rhino but they'd raised their pressing fee to 2,000 units and would not budge. Well, we wouldn't sell the old fee of 1000 units, let along 2000, so I never proceeded, needless to say. When I inquired about the RCA with Sony years ago, they'd just stopped licensing, so that was a no-go.

Bruce, thank you for trying to license these works and for the information.

I did make my own Robert Prince compilation out of what has been released. All Lala Land by the way. But I would like to see more of his work out there. I was hoping there'd be a another volume of BUCK ROGERS with Princes' SPACE VAMPRE on it. It's a Universal title. And all things Nosferatu-ish seem popular at the moment. Robert Prince: Miscellany (42:02) Land of the Giants (5:53) Nightmare (5:49) 1. Episode Credits/ Train Mare 2:45 2. Mark Mare/ Happy End 3:04 Mission: Impossible (12:38) Homecoming (10:10) 3. Yesterday Dream/ Heavy Chase 2:04 4. Midge's Bridge 2:46 5. Vanilla Fudgsicle 3:03 6. Midge Done It/ Finale 2:06 Mindbend (2:28) 7. Brain Bender/ Unreal 2:28 Wonder Woman (23:31) The Deadly Toys (10:38) 8. Aerielle/ XYZ Nightmare 2:06 9. Aerielle 2/ A Plastic Man 2:39 10. Safe House/ A Plane Affair 2:06 11. He also arranged Paul Desmond's debut album for RCA "Desmond Blue" with Jim Hall. 1962 Great album. I have it and didn't even know Prince arranged it. Thanks for the post, Roy.
