Hey edw! I actually picked up American History X recently and despite the harsh subject matter of the film...THIS is one strong album. The varied kind of soundtrack album 'we' all love. Drama, themes, even some gripping action. Knight Moves is more experimental, but I've always enjoyed it. 10th Kingdom is a pleasant Varese album. Not super memorable, but i Unearthed it every few years and enjoy it (and more importantly am not bored in its 70+ run time!) Her work with Art Of Noise was often amazing,,lot of 80s favorites in that outfits work (starting with Close To The Edit. The video still makes me smile). Very coincidentally, I'm re-reading Torn Music and justread today, the Say Anything.... chapter. Cameron Crowe literally drove her onto a plane back to London, driving her bonkers with constant, shifting feelings on the score (Richard Gibbs stepped in and sorted it). Thus ends my Dudley Notes :-D Cheers! -Sean

American History X is my favorite film score of hers, but in show context I think Poldark is my favorite thing she’s done. Incredible though too-brief main title sequence! Yavar

I was convinced there was a previous, general Dudley thread, but a quick search didn't provide any. Recently, I had a walkthrough of some of her work, and either bumped threads, or created new ones about individual titles in her catalogue. As others above have said, I also consider AMERICAN HISTORY X her magnum opus. But not far behind, BENEDETTA. Also shout-outs to TRISTAN AND ISOLDE, POLDARK and the non-film album ANCIENT & MODERN. Some day, I wish someone releases THE MIRACLE MAKER on its own album. Only a track has been released.

Fascinating fact: Anne Dudley has scored the same number of Paul Verhoeven films (3) as Jerry Goldsmith and Basil Poledouris! But no one has heard of these three films of hers, unlike the films that Jerry and Basil made for the same director.

Several good scores listed here, so I'll mention two absolutely delightful scores for comedies: 1) Jeeves and Wooster. This TV series has a swinging jazz-age theme with muted trumpets and a violin solo that is repeated throughout the series in endlessly witty variations. There once was a CD of her music (which barely scratched the surface of her contributions to the show), plus it's been OOP forever and is expensive. An expanded release of this music is a Holy Grail for me. 2) The Full Monty. She won an Oscar for this, deservedly so. Many on this board disagree, claiming she won because of the songs. Maybe, but that doesn't detract from the effectiveness of her score. Unfortunately, in order to obtain all of her brief score you must purchase both The Full Monty soundtracks AND the Oscar promo. You'd think the Oscar promo would be complete, but no. There are tracks on all three of these CDS that are exclusive. Anyway, the music is charming, witty, and has a melody that slightly resembles the Rocky theme in a downtrodden low-rent way, perfectly capturing the film's underdog story.

Fascinating fact: Anne Dudley has scored the same number of Paul Verhoeven films (3) as Jerry Goldsmith and Basil Poledouris! Rogier van Otterloo also has three (unless he also did some of his pre-TURKISH DELIGHT films). Nobody has done four yet I think Rogier van Otterloo indeed has done more than three scores for Verhoeven, looking over IMDb... not familiar with them, though! Jack Trombey is another composer name that repeats (maybe more than three times) in Verhoeven's early filmography. Yavar

Another score of hers that I enjoy is Hustle, a film I don't remember well. A caper comedy with Rebel Wilson. The music, available on a download, is top-notch comic Dudley.

Nobody has done four yet I think Rogier van Otterloo indeed has done more than three scores for Verhoeven, looking over IMDb... not familiar with them, though! van Otterloo did three movies for Verhoeven but Soldier of Orange was also released as a tv mini-serie, 'Voor Koning en Vaderland'. So that's the 4th credit. Don't know if he wrote additional music for the tv version. His great score has never been never properly released on cd. I really like what Dudley did for Verhoeven, especially Benedetta. But her scores (and those Verhoeven movies) are less well known.
