I'm referring to non-seasonal soundtracks that you find remind you or associate with Christmas.

Star Wars Ep. 4- I remember dying to get the soundtrack for this as a kid. My parents gave me the Meco version for Xmas in 1977. I admit I was a little taken aback but didn't want to diminish their happiness for getting me what they thought I really wanted. I recall putting it on right after opening it while we unwrapped other presents. I thought it was pretty okay and liked the sound FX. As it turns out, a relative had bought 2 copies of the original 2 record set which I ended up getting, so it all worked out. They claimed it had skips but it played fine on our record player. A New Hope always reminds me of that Christmas.

Blade Runner (New American Orchestra version)- same as above except there was no option for the original back in 1982 and I really enjoyed the tape cassette (yup those actually existed) of it. I think I still have it lurking around....

The Black Stallion- I think we watched this film during the holidays on tv (I had seen it in theatres when it was first released) and the music always transports me back to Xmas 1980. "Henry" always brings up real nostalgia. And the End Credits cue too. Very sentimental.

Hook- well this is no surprise. I saw this during the holidays in 1991 and played the soundtrack all during exams and writing papers when I was in university.

Dances with Wolves- again associated with the time I watched the film over the holidays in 1990.

What are some scores you associate with the festive season?

The Red Tent LP, circa 1978. Because I ordered it for a Christmas present from (I think) my grandmother, who duly wrapped it up and gave it to me on Christmas morning. It went on the turntable and hardly came off until the decorations came down.

I tend to associate John Williams' Harry Potter scores with Christmas. Williams of course composed cues and songs for the Christmas sequences in films 1 and 3, plus he also leans heavily on the celeste, which always triggers thoughts of The Nutcracker and Christmastime in general.

Likewise Williams' Hook, which I'd argue is not really a "Christmas movie" (despite the opening scenes being set at Christmas). Like Potter, this score is suffused with a magical tone, and leans on the celeste.

In addition, Hook and Potters 1 and 2 were released during the holiday season, so those scores remind me of the time frame when I first saw them (in particular my trying to find a parking space at the mall multiplex amid all those shoppers!).

I had a thread on this years ago which I can't find at the moment. Some I can recall are "My Neighbor Totoro" and "Balto". Both really give off the Christmas vibes for me.

STAR TREK IV. Not a Christmas score but it came out during the holidays and it has all those wonderful chimes and bells.

Thomas Newman's LITTLE WOMEN is festive and lovely. Being a Christmas movie with some seasonal elements in it, I often give it a spin at this time of year.

The Lord of the Rings scores and other Tolkien influenced music across genres. Not because it speaks directly to the holiday, but just because my wife and I tend to feel more Tolkeinesque this time of year, some years anyway.

The Great Escape. UK Christmas staple.

Three Gone is one of my favourite score cues of all time.

That’s funny, because I associate it with school summer holidays. Every time the cricket was rained off in the 70s they seemed to run The Great Escape.

Yes, was about to mention that. Christmas features a little bit in it, but far less than what its musical ambiance suggests. Also by Elfman - THE FAMILY MAN.

I always thought Edward Scissorhands, Hook, and even Harry Potter come with a heavy dose of "Christmas-association", they have that for me, and I'm not surprised to see others feel likewise.

I also find Kilar’s Dracula score does have a "winter" association for me, though not really a Christmassy one.

For personal reasons I associate Brahms' Requiem with Christmas season as well, just as I do ABBA's song "Super Trooper".

Interestingly, Barry's Dances With Wolves and the New American Orchestra Blade Runner are more associated with "summer" for me.

100%. My theater played the movie all through the holidays, so that association is strong for me as well. Helps that the movie is pretty cheery, too.

I fall into this connection as well, more with the movies themselves and therefore the music than for film music alone. The lovely movie 2010: The Year We Make Contact is one of those, seen in theaters in December of 1984, the following year's December on cable, one year being the general window there, reinforcing the connections. By virtue of this, the big ending piece of music from that score hits me that way.

I saw Dances with Wolves 3 times in theatres over the Xmas holidays in 1990. So I always associate the movie and music with the holidays. smile
