Copying over the score only section of my thread from the other side of the board. This year marks the 50th anniversary of Space Battleship Yamato, known in the US as Starblazers.

The soundtrack was full of dramatic themes, exciting action music and beautiful vocals. Music you just didn't hear in an average American cartoon. This was space opera music years before John Williams/Star Wars made it popular.

I'm almost convinced Stu Phillips Battlestar Galactica was tracked with this cue. Not only do you hear shades of the Galactica theme the action music is reminiscent of the action music on the OST.

From Wiki:

Space Battleship Yamato (Japanese: Hepburn: Uchu Senkan Yamato, also called Cosmoship Yamato and Star Blazers) is a Japanese science fiction anime series written by Yoshinobu Nishizaki, directed by manga artist Leiji Matsumoto, and produced by Academy Productions. The series aired in Yomiuri TV from October 6, 1974 to March 30, 1975, totaling up to 26 episodes.

I love this music - among my favorite from Anime.

I was able to see the first series on YouTube not too many years ago (in Japanese with subtitles), and have really enjoyed the animated remakes. I bought all the CDs from those two series, which featured new performances of the original music.

And I'm very grateful that Apple (iTunes) has almost all the Starblazers/Yamato Sound Almanac recording collections documenting all the music and numerous associated albums from the 70's and 80's. I was just thinking of buying a couple more a few days ago - must have sensed the anniversary approaching!

I originally saw the edited American version in the late 70's. Much later I saw the original Japanese series with English subtitles like you. While I love the music I never acquired the soundtracks on disc for some reason. Just recently I got part one (The original OST) on disc and plan on getting the others which are still pretty abundant and cheap though I think they're OOP now. What I can't find on disc I'll get from iTunes. Thanks for the tip!

The music from the first series, rerecorded for stereo in 1977 as "Symphonic Suite Yamato," has been "remixed" from the original multitrack master and reissued on Dec. 25.

Awesome, thanks for the info. The first series music is my favorite.
