Saw the (awful) Kraven: The Hunter this afternoon, and the last thing I was expecting to hear over the studio logos (and entire opening sequence) was Poledouris' "Hymn To Red October" from The Hunt For Red October. It made the strenuously generic Benjamin Wallfisch score that followed even worse in comparison, but hey...Basil on a movie screen in 2024. That's
Huh! The first eight minutes of the movie are on YouTube. I hadn’t seen it before, but indeed! I didn’t expect this flick to have at least one redeeming quality B)
They posted the first 9 minutes of the film online and I seriously thought it was a trailer or temp. They actually used most of the Hymn for Red October. Crazy...
Of course that music is so great it could be put under a Jiffy Peanut Butter ad and make it amazing.
Never come across a score for one film tracked into an unrelated one?
It's not all that uncommon. One obvious example is the climax of Die Hard, which uses John Scott's Man on Fire followed immediately by James Horner's Aliens.

Somewhere in the film? Sure I have but not for the "main theme" or "opening theme" of a film. Its like using the "Star Wars Theme" or "Jaws Theme" to open an entirely different film. It's far more jarring here, but like I said probably only for us films score buffs. Most ppl probably think it's original music for the film.
I was playing the album a bit on the way home and thought, after a very generic ‘action’ first track, that the music took a bit of a positive turn working in the vocals that are introduced. Haven’t heard the rest of it yet but i’m always hopeful with a BW score.
Just about 40 years ago, I caught a martial arts film from China on late night TV. The entire film was scored with needle drops from Goldsmith's "Coma" and "Alien" and it didn't work at all.
