Yay, getting $10 tacked onto the price just so we can have another copy of an album we've all owned for the last 25 years...!

I would be shocked if the cost of the product increases by $10 due to that.

Considering that the CDs I was buying from Intrada back in the mid 80s were often 20 smackers or so, the prices paid these days seem awfully reasonable. A bit of a bummer for those who cash strapped but the quantity AND the quality of Intrada products make them worth every single penny. I do get it though.

Totally agree. I’m from the UK and I am prepared to put up with high p&p but that’s my hobby. Can’t afford to do it a lot but when I can’t worth it.

I'm over the moon at the prospect of this release. I remember when the 30-second previews of the original release were online, and I heard THE PATRIOT main theme for the first time (and I can remember exactly where the sound cut off), I was beside myself with excitement to hear the whole thing. On release day, I had to be in court, as part of my terrible divorce proceedings that dragged on for years, but as soon as I got out, I stopped at the mall, purchased the cd, and then went and listened to the whole thing in my car in the parking lot. My day improved considerably!

Thank you, Doug, wherever you are, and thank you to the Intrada team for following through with this release.

Yes. I indeed remember hearing that main theme that was available as an early online streaming wonder. Was absolutely swept away by its gaelic feel. It was rapturous and moving and elegant. I'm surprised it's not a concert staple as it should be in the regular Boston Pops repertoire.

I buy very few releases these days but this will be a must have for me. The main theme is achingly beautiful as it opens and transitions to the patriotic theme and closes as lovely as it began. I can't wait.

That alt arrangement Mike gave them doesn’t seem to pertain to the tracks as listed on that page.

They just continued numbering the tracks straight through both disks on this site. Go back to disc 2 and start with 1 maybe?[/endquote

Good lord. I’m an idiot and had to correct myself. That alternative listening starts with the alternate cues (track 10) and goes through 29 so it’s just 10-29 rearranged. I guess everyone else figured it out I had to re-read that. Sorry for being so dumb. I had to correct myself especially since I was trying to help someone else and just made it worse. Still, I can’t wait to order this tomorrow.

It’s now up for order. Press Release:

Intrada announces a 25th-anniversary edition of John Williams' Oscar-nominated score to the 2000 Columbia Pictures/Centropolis film The Patriot. Throughout Williams' long and treasured career he had developed a fresh, Americana voice, first coming to the fore in his 1969 score to The Reivers, then furthered a few years later with The Cowboys and quite powerfully in an unexpected place—-the Smallville sequences of Superman. It was a style that he would return to periodically and The Patriot provided a showcase for this style. The score involves three principal themes that correspond to protagonist Martin’s past, present, and future—the war trauma theme, the love theme and the patriot theme. As the themes weave throughout the score, Williams' beloved epic style is on full display, as well as exciting action music. It's all here in this lengthy and powerful work.
Williams wrote his score for The Patriot over the course of about two months, a length of time he described as “fairly generous.” He then recorded the score over eight sessions between May 6 and May 20, 2000. For this expanded 3-CD set, producer Mike Matessino took a meticulous approach to restoring the score for full presentation as well as preserving the unique and artistic presentation of the original Hollywood Records album. As Matessino writes in the album's liner notes:

For this presentation, Sony Pictures transferred the Genex digital back-up 8-channel multiple optical disk (MOD) cartridges, which preserved Shawn Murphy’s SDDS mixes. Performance edits were recreated, and the two-channel stereo mix-down process precisely followed what was done for the original soundtrack album. Careful attention was paid to the shortcomings that Murphy had originally noted in 2000,specifically to how SDDS’s two additional front channels could compromise audio clarity and breadth of the stereo mix. The entire presentation was monitored in this regard so that the end result would preserve all of the subtlety and dynamic power of the original recording.

The film is a historical war drama set during the American Revolutionary War. It follows Benjamin Martin, a South Carolina farmer and war hero turned pacifist, who is reluctantly drawn into the fight for independence after a brutal attack by British forces claims the life of his son. As he leads a militia against the British, Martin grapples with personal loss, revenge, and his duty to his family and country. Starring Mel Gibson and Heath Ledger, the film blends intense battle sequences with emotional drama.

Interesting to read about the SDDS 8 Channel. I wonder if that's why I always felt the original album lacked some clarity.

This was an instant order for me. Love the score but always felt the original album wasn't a great presentation of it.

If you listen to the sound clips or even the full cue on the Legacy of John Williams podcast, you can tell how much better this sounds than the original album. I never noticed how poor that sounded until hearing the new one… it’s quite significant IMO:

Greatly expanded and high quality Williams release. I’m all in of course.

As it happens, The Patriot is one of the few Willams score I didn't own. So, I’m doubly in.

8-channel multiple optical disk (MOD) cartridges

I believe this should read “8-channel magneto optical disk”, not “multiple”.
