Wow! These are the two unreleased Broughton's I've wanted most, and I have just about everything ever released. Also a great combination of two well done early 80's TV noir/thrillers. Instant sale! (And will be picking up the new Gil Mellé down the road!)

"One Shoe Makes it Murder" sounds like a score from an episode of a 1980's hour-long drama series, which is a good thing if you know what I am talking about. The kind of episode that allows a score room to breath and isn't just servicing the episode. Killjoy is another 1980's sounding score with drama, suspense, mystery. If your ears are bleeding from the latest synth-scape BRAAAM filled chugging score of 2024/2025, take a break and let your brain come out of hiding with this release.

Well well well....after straight combo CD+digital purchase, I am listening to the complete score presentation of KILLJOY ... OMG, this is incredibly good thriller music, the whole strings section is absolutely outstanding. This is pure Bruce Broughton best serious music stuff, as good as DESPERATE VOYAGE or NARROW MARGIN, if not even better. Let me say this straight: if you like Jerry Goldsmith's COMA, you will for sure adore Bruce Broughton's KILLJOY. It is of the same caliber. Absolute top Goldsmith best level. And the sound is excellent, first class recording. I always liked his music, but Bruce Broughton actually doens't stop to grow on me, I just can't wait for any upcoming CD release of such early works like this one. Many thanks to Ford A. Thaxton and the whole Dragon's Domain team for this release.

I have OSMIM on tape cassette, taken directly off the film when it was shown on UK TV way back when. It's a fun score. I've never seen or heard KILLJOY before, so that's going to be new to these ears.

Sartoris is saying just about everything I would say about these two scores. And what makes this pairing great is they work together as two different approaches to generally similar subject matter in the idioms of the time, but with the usual top-flight craftsmanship which always makes a Broughton score worthwhile. This ougta be a sellout!

Now I am listening to ONE SHOES MAKES IT MURDER and this is completely different experience than KILLJOY, with now a very warm jazzy mood totally absent in KILLJOY which is very cold. It is also excellent, with some great saxophone performance interpolating with solid strings arrangements. Let me say it this way: if you like Dave Grusin THREE DAYS OF THE CONDOR and MULHOLLAND FALLS, David Shire FAREWELL MY LOVELY and the likes featuring subtle jazzy although dramatic film scoring, this is really for you ! Some obvious Jerry Goldsmith CHINATOWN influence as well, but never borrowing him. This should also please to Philippe Sarde MORT D'UN POURRI aficionados at times... I have to confess that I can't have enough of this music... This is so fresh for the ears, a total enjoyment. These two early scores really testify the huge range of Bruce Broughton's musical palette: he really can do absolutely anything since the beginning! Bruce Broughton's top class writing and arrangement skills are good enough to make him stand alone among the best american Silver Age film and television composers. I wish he was more in the forefront in Hollywood. This Bruce Broughton Collection Vol 1 is one of the very best albums I have heard in ages. I couldn't recommend it enough. @ Mr. Sartoris. Great write up and recommendation. I am in. BSX is to be commended for making these silver age gems come to light.

Great job, Ford and Co. More Bruce Broughton is always a good thing!:-) I couldn't agree more. BTW. if you listen to the opening of KILLJOY you'll hear an orchestra effect that he later re-used in YOUNG SHERLOCK HOLMES Main Title and End Credits Ford A. Thaxton

"BTW. if you listen to the opening of KILLJOY you'll hear an orchestra effect that he later re-used in YOUNG SHERLOCK HOLMES Main Title and End Credits" ------------------------ Cool. If you're talking about that weird 'rolling metal ball in a wooden box' sound from the YSH titles, does anyone know how it was achieved?
