I can't give any details but I can tell you that SAE/CRS/BYU are revving up our historic Max Steiner series. We're beginning with a classic score from the 30's that has been preserved on acetate in the Max Steiner Collection at Brigham Young.

We'll make an official announcement in due course but this will be happening sooner rather than later!

Congratulations Ray; great news! Are there any other composers under consideration for future releases (you’ve done some wonderful non Steiner scores in the past), or is it just Max for now?

Yavar

Wonderful news Ray! I was thinking about the BYU series not long ago and whether there was a chance it would be revived. Thanks for the update!

P.S. auto-correct changed "long" to "Kong." Not a coincidence I'm sure.

Great news, Ray! Digital audio tools have improved in the last few years as well, so those acetates should sound even crisper!

Wonderful news ! I hope something can finally be worked out for the 90% of Max’s beautiful score for THE HANGING TREE. The film was made for Gary Cooper’s Baroda Productions in 1959 and was released by Warner Brothers. Gary Cooper’s daughter Maria Cooper Janis could possibly help in getting it on CD. Please try. It’s a beautiful score with a typical western flare and tender moments with a violin accompanying what you are seeing on the movie screen.

Maybe it will be JEZEBEL from 1938. That would be great!
About 50 minutes of this score had been available in the former Steiner library.

There were very early ones mentioned in the Smith bio that had me extremely interested based on the descriptions. I mean I’ve never seen The Charge Of The Light Brigade, a film not unknown to me, and there was one other that was a total unknown, the name of which I can’t recall right now. Would be neat if it is one of those two.

You gave us CAGED, so I'm happy. I wonder what it could be.

You gave us his western films except one. Please do some ‘magic’ Ray and hopefully I will hear his score to THE HANGING TREE someday before I deal with the bucket.

Great to see that we are getting more of Max's terrific music in 2025 - I can never get enough of his melodies.

I really thought this was about a new Mad Max movie or expanded soundtrack for the movie coming out. Disappointed, but glad for those interested in what this thread is actually about.

Ray, you missed your chance to call the film noir set "Mad Maximilian: Flamingo Road."

The Hanging Tree (1959) would be an instant buy for me!

It’s a month since the last post on this thread and I thought of reviving it in the hope that Ray Faiola might be closer to giving us more information about Max coming back.
