Max Aruj & Ruth Barrett to Score Victoria Mahoney’s ‘The Old Guard 2’
Max Aruj (Crawl, The Ice Road, Lansky, iBoy) & Ruth Barrett (Bodyguard, Victoria, Sanditon, The Terminal List) have been hired to score the upcoming Netflix original film The Old Guard 2. The movie is directed by Victoria Mahoney (Lovecraft Country, The Red Line) and stars Charlize Theron, KiKi Layne, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Marwan Kenzari, Matthias Schoenaerts, Luca Marinelli and Veronica Ngô who reprise their roles from the Dustin O’Halloran- & Volker Bertelmann-scored original 2020 film. They are joined by new cast members Henry Golding and Uma Thurman.No plot details have been announced yet. Greg Rucka wrote the screenplay based on the graphic novel series created by himself and Leandro Fernández. Theron is also producing the project with Gina Prince-Bythewood (who directed the original film), Skydance’s David Ellison, Dana Goldberg & Don Granger (Mission: Impossible – Fallout, Jack Reacher), Denver and Delilah’s Beth Kono & AJ Dix (Atomic Blonde, Tully), as well as Marc Evans (Instant Family, Like a Boss). The Old Guard 2 will premiere this year on Netflix.
The assignment of Lorne Balfe’s onetime lead assistant and an unrelated co-composer was announced in January 2023, well before a postproduction shutdown and reshoots conducted almost two years after principal photography wrapped (echoes of BORDERLANDS there).
I really liked the first movie and was happy to see it was getting a sequel, but the long delay of that sequel makes me think it's probably not going to be very good.

Well hey…I was half right.
But I imagine Aruj would’ve survived the production turmoil if not for his co-lead role on M:I 8: The Ocho, given that another Balfe assistant replaced him.
