Hmmm.... I got the first Perseverance release, I remember, because I thought it would be the only score release of this, ever. The sound was abysmal, but so be it. Then, just shortly before it was reissued -- in much better sound -- by NoteforNote, I sold the Perseverance (sorry, buyer!). But I never got around to the NoteforNote. Wonder what I should do now, if I ever get into a financial position to buy either the LLL or NoteforNote. The "expanded" bit puts me off, but the "remastered" tempts.

Oh, interesting! Let's see how it differs.

Nah, don't interesting in Zimmer at all. But great that Hook is back in stock. That's much more important. LOL

I only have the Perseverance version. This new one is tempting. I would also have loved if the original 1989 soundtrack was included here, like they did with BLACK RAIN. Some memorable songs im RAIN MAN too.

Sorry that you're "don't interesting" in RAIN MAN, one of the most important scores in the last 40 years. I'm sure there's another thread where you can express your love of HOOK (great score, one of my top 10 Williamses, but the OST was already on the long side to begin with). Granted, JB may have overstated his case a bit, but "one of the most important scores in the last 40 years" is behond absurd. I know you like the score but sheesh.

Not absurd at all. 100 % correct.

Maybe. The score is … well, the film deserved a good score in my opinion, which it just didn't get. I think it draws more attention simply because of the good movie it is attached to. But it is absurd to think Zimmer draws large amount of concert goes because of Rainman, and not, for examples, anything he's done in the decades since like Batman films, The Lion King, probably Interstellar, others. No, no, it's Rainman that brings the yutes me. Rainman, yeah, definitely Rainman.

The point was that it launched his career in the US, and hence a hugely important score in the history of film music. Most millennials and beyond have no connection to the score when they stumble into Zimmer concerts. But it is what it is, historically.

I only have the Perseverance version. This new one is tempting. I would also have loved if the original 1989 soundtrack was included here, like they did with BLACK RAIN. Some memorable songs im RAIN MAN too. The difference in sound quality between the NoteForNote and Perseverance (which basically used an old unofficial version as it's source; which again probably came from some kind of analog cassette source of some kind) is notable, to say the least. Much, much better. But the source used for the NoteForNote is still not as good as the score tracks on the original album. It seems to have some pitch/speed issues, and also, at least noticeable in the Las Vegas cue, a narrowed stereo field (and/or panned slightly to the left), compared to the cue on the original album anyway. Also there's some difference in the mix as well, like the sax you hear in Las Vegas (from ~2'20 on the OST) is very undermixed on the NoteForNote. At least compared to the OST, so it could have been mixed much more in the front especially for the OST, but I would still love to have that mix of the full cue. It can be edited, but then you get a problem because of the differences in the stereo field/left-right pan... So, for the ultimate edition of this, it would need the "treatment" (or source material) used for the old OST. But I doubt that exist, most likely... A simple "remaster" of the already existing material wouldn't provide much new I think (quality-wise).
