Honestly, I don't think the sound on the Perseverance one is that bad... I don't have the NoteForNote. The NoteForNote was mastered from original and official multitrack master tapes, and it sounds really good. The Perseverance is known to have considerable issues and was mastered from very problematic sources to begin with... though I don't have it myself to compare. (But I've heard it years ago.)

I only have the Perseverance version. This new one is tempting. I would also have loved if the original 1989 soundtrack was included here, like they did with BLACK RAIN. Some memorable songs im RAIN MAN too. The difference in sound quality between the NoteForNote and Perseverance (which basically used an old unofficial version as it's source; which again probably came from some kind of analog cassette source of some kind) is notable, to say the least. Much, much better. But the source used for the NoteForNote is still not as good as the score tracks on the original album. It seems to have some pitch/speed issues, and also, at least noticeable in the Las Vegas cue, a narrowed stereo field (and/or panned slightly to the left), compared to the cue on the original album anyway. Also there's some difference in the mix as well, like the sax you hear in Las Vegas (from ~2'20 on the OST) is very undermixed on the NoteForNote. At least compared to the OST, so it could have been mixed much more in the front especially for the OST, but I would still love to have that mix of the full cue. It can be edited, but then you get a problem because of the differences in the stereo field/left-right pan... So, for the ultimate edition of this, it would need the "treatment" (or source material) used for the old OST. But I doubt that exist, most likely... A simple "remaster" of the already existing material wouldn't provide much new I think (quality-wise). Thanks for the info. I am trying to decide if I want to double dip on this release or not since I have the NoteForNote version. I really like the score but there isn't much added there to make this an immediate buy for me. If it had included the original soundtrack, I would have bought it immediately. Only 1500 copies of this being done but I feel like I will live if I miss out on it since I have the NFN version, and the score is not a massive "must" for me. Maybe will bite of LLL ever decides to do another sale. I need those JB soundtracks!
