I assume he came with Sam Mendes as a package rather than being handpicked by the producers, and I’m afraid I don’t get a lot of pleasure from his Bond scores.
I think you have in mind David's brother, Thomas Newman? (I actually think David Newman would have been composer casting, but I realize his extreme unlikeliness to get the gig.)

Heh, yesterday was a long day. My mind thought “Thomas”, my fingers typed “David”.
I have my preferences set up so I see 50 topics per page.
You know what topics I visit? The topics I'm interested in.
You know what topics I totally ignore? Those I'm not.
Come on, guys, your comments are the equivalent of walking over to a group of people talking at a party to tell them you're tired of their conversation and then moving on. Go get a drink and talk to another group then....
The problem is not that Conti scored a Bond film, the problem is the time period and the style he thought was right for that period. He can do good stuff. Take his score to the James Bond parody film Spy Hard (still not officially released).
I disagree. Conti captured For Your Eyes Only perfectly. Disco music was still hot in Europe at the time and he incorporated it into the score in just the right ways. Runaway is one of the best Bond action pieces, IMO.
1) Hans Zimmer (Steve Mazzaro) 2) Hans Zimmer (Steve Mazzaro) 3) Hans Zimmer (Steve Mazzaro) 4) Michel Legrand 5) Eric Serra 6) Michael Kamen
I'know a lot of people like Michael kament LTK, but I just listened to the complete edition and,is really headache inducing. Little musical interest except when uses the Bond Theme. I'm a fan of Michael Kamen,nonetheless..
Well high profile auteur director Sam Mendes did Skyfall and SPECTRE, and wanted to collaborate with his regular composer so that’s why Arnold didn’t continue. As to why he wasn’t brought back for NTTD, especially after Dan Romer (another regular director collaborator) departed… no idea.
