This message, and its white screen, has met all of us many times in the last few years as we try to log on to the boards, but once again it seems to be unusually common in the last week, over long periods of time. And it stands in the way of our daily FSM fix, dammit!

I'm no tech wizard, but I assume it has something to do with server issues?

Is there anything that we as a membership can do on our end, Lukas, to fix this problem? Like, crowdfund a migration to more stable servers? I know you don't like to crowdfund stuff like this, but it's a suggestion. I think many would be willing.

Very common, now. At least 3 times yesterday and once, so far, today!!

Was down when I went to bed last night, and all the way until about an hour ago. So yeah, the periods are getting longer again, after having been relatively short throughout January.

I couldn't sleep so had a quick look around 3am - down then too.

Not sure what the issue is, could be all kinds of things, but one thing it may just be: bandwidth.

Just speculating, but depending on the contract for this site, you have a certain amount of bandwidth (visiting users etc.) that is included in your hosting, and if that is exceeded, you will get "the service is unavailable" until the next period.

Ironically in trying to respond to this post I got the error, though only for a minute.

Been wondering, if FSM truly went down for good, where would people go?

I get this message, too, more than ever.

If we fans can help…

Yep, the forum goes down multiple times per day and has for months now. An outage can be a couple of minutes or hours.

Yes, maybe once a month but as you said more like three times a day now.

It's the system collapsing when you dig up threads from 20 years ago.

It's like the boards immune/defense mechanism is trying to fight off the virus like Bond threads.

I thought that the board automatically shots down when spammers/bots are active ?!

Under the table, in fetal position.

Based on the error message I received yesterday when I tried to visit the site, they're running on an open-source Apache Tomcat server...not the most modern option nowadays. I doubt FSM has the finances to support a cloud based solution but that would certainly limit downtime.
