While I'm no expert or completist on Ry Cooder scores, this might be his most orchestral and 'traditional'.
He's helped out by George Clinton and Van Dyke Parks, in the orchestrating, arranging and conducting side of things (plus, they co-compose many tracks with Cooder).
There's also source music threaded throughout the score.
But it's a pretty good effort. It hangs together really well.
Rough, gritty...authentic and emotional.
I think this score (along with PRIMARY COLOURS) might surprise listeners who know him mainly for his spare guitar/blues twangs and moody electronics.
Any other fans out there of this one?

This was caught up in my general distaste of Cooder in my early film music years. But now that I've come around on him, especially his blues & guitar efforts, I think it's time to revisit this more orchestral one.

Thumbs Up, (Thor)...

It's not your 'traditional' John Williams style score either, so others might like it too wink

I absolutely love this score!! One of my first film score purchases of my own, I've had the score since it came out. I would love to see a complete release of this, though I think it's pretty complete already.

This film also starred the late Gene Hackman.

I think this is the only one of his I have. I think the last time I played it I was still in short trousers.

That’s because US Army Airborne troops used to yell that when they jumped. Originated during WWII and became a pop culture thing. It was done in a lot of the old WWII films.

I think this should be on the list of "What is Your Favorite Score From a Gene Hackman Movie?" It is my second favorite score to a Gene Hackman movie behind Superman.

It is a solid effort and looking at the score credits, it reads like a Zimmer score.
Cooder did very little without help or co-writing or other artists featured.
But it does hang together really well.

My whittled favourite tracks are...

1. Geronimo: Main Title
2. Restoration
4. Bound For Canaan (The 6th Cavalry)
7. Wayfaring Stranger
8. Judgment Day
9. Bound For Canaan (Sieber & Davis)
15. La Visita
16. Davis
